Danish studio IO Interactive makes an announcement that will disappoint those who have been waiting for this ultra-immersive version of three excellent Hitman games.
IO Interactive is working hard on its James Bond project 007. Hakan Abrak, the studio’s CEO, promised that we should know more soon, without giving a date. “Believe me, we’re also dying to be able to talk about it.” he added. What if the reveal took place at the Game Awards 2024? We would like to do it, like many others, but it seems far too soon. Hitman hasn’t been abandoned, but there’s bad news for the license’s big return.
Hitman World of Assassination revient…
At the start of the school year, IO Interactive surprised PSVR2 players by unveiling a new version of Hitman World of Assassination. A game that combines the three works of the trilogy started in 2016 and all content. That means the full campaigns, Contract, Escalation, and Fleeting Target modes, and more. The difference with the titles playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC is that they are virtual reality versions designed specifically for PlayStation VR 2.
The real novelty compared to the three Hitman games already playable on PSVR is that they are optimized for the PS5 VR headset. It will therefore be much more immersive if the interactions for touching, grabbing or positioning objects are improved and the sense controllers are taken into account. Among the innovations mentioned are active reloading to manually eject ammunition, grabbing and inserting a full magazine, holstering weapons by moving closer to the body, or even ambidexterity to pick up an object by, for example, robbing a security guard. In short, it is almost a completely new experience and you will be able to take on the role of Agent 47.
… but postpones the release to PS5 and PSVR2
During the announcement, IO Interactive announced a December release for Hitman World of Assassination. This is no longer the case as the studio needs more time and the release of this next game is postponed. “ […] The release of Hitman World of Assassination for PS VR2 has been postponed to March 27, 2025. This decision was not taken lightly. […] Our priority remains the same: to provide players with an exceptional experience that meets their expectations. This additional time will not only allow the team to perfect the game and make it more immersive, but also add some bonuses that we really wanted to offer in this PS VR2 version, such as active reloading ».
If you own this Hitman collection, a PSVR2 upgrade pack is available for $9.99. There is currently no change in this regard.
