The Fable series has been in the process of being rebooted since 2020, when Microsoft announced that the development studio behind this project would be Playground Games, known for its work on the Forza Horizon series. Although some time has passed since then, in 2023, progress was presented which allowed users to meet interesting characters, like a giant gardener and a retired hero. After that, we got a little more “gameplay” during this year which already cleared up a few other doubts.
While a detailed look at the game has yet to be presented, a new report could contain new details that will give us a better understanding of where this reboot is heading.
Zero doubt in the graphics part and choice of characters
Inside Xbox Two podcastWindows Central’s Jez Corden shared his experience seeing images of Fable’s alpha phase. Although he has no idea when this footage was recorded or if it will be released anytime soon, Corden says the game looks “fantastic.” The combat he saw was similar to that of The Witcher series, with spins, flips, executions, and magic attacks combined with seamless “slash and slash” action. Different weapons were also used, such as a bow and arrow, as well as gravitational style spells which were displayed alongside standard melee combat gameplay.
As for special enemies, Corden mentions seeing a giant, scary chicken, a staple of Fable titles. Also involved was a werewolf, who had been lured into a trap using a full English breakfast of ‘bacon, eggs, sausages and a casserole“. Although the alpha images showed the female protagonist that Playground Games has been showing since the game’s presentation, Corden says he’s heard of a male lead character who’s also in development. Character selection isn’t yet a confirmed feature in the reboot, but perhaps we’ll see it in an upcoming trailer.
About the elements behind this new Fable
The combat in Fable seems very tight, which gives us clues that the game can offer a more fluid and dynamic gaming experience. The variety of weapons and magical abilities also suggests that the game can offer many options to players. Although no official release date for this reboot has yet been announced, it is clear that the game is on the right track and that fans of the franchise can rest assured.
As for the story and world of the game, few details have been revealed yet. However, the game will likely follow the Fable series’ tradition of offering an open world and a rich, complex story accompanied by touches of English humor.
