Believe it or not, Splatoon 3 has been available to play for over a few years now. Up until this fall, the game received a very steady stream of support, including new Splatfests, updates, and additional content and features. However, Nintendo has since decided to stop updating the game regularly. Splatfests will no longer be new and updates will no longer have new content.
However, this does not mean that the updates stop completely. Nintendo still likes to release weapon balance updates from time to time, and this is no exception. Splatoon 3 will be updated to version 8.2.0 tomorrow, according to Nintendo. The patch notes have already been published, so you can see them in full below.

This update is aimed at enabling the use of certain amiibo features even when you are not connected to the internet, as well as adjusting the balance of battles.
We’ve adjusted the specs for the Splattershot and Splattershot Pro with the intention of expanding the range of situations these main guns can handle. In addition, this weapon has specifications that make it a benchmark for various other weapons. By improving them, we also intend to make room to further improve the specs for weapons with similar ranged specializations as those weapons change in balance in the future.
For other main weapons, we’ve made changes that highlight their strengths and make them easier to use for players who use them regularly.
For Fizzy Bombs, although the effectiveness of the strategy of continuously throwing Fizzy Bombs from afar will be reduced, making it easier to focus damage where it’s targeted and create an ink path, we’ve made it easier to support switching to the front lines.
For Torpedo, by giving more time to knock them down, we’ve made it easier for the players they’re thrown at to deal with them. Also, by making them easier to throw when aiming at the flanks or back of an enemy, we’ve improved their usability for players who use them.
We’ve made changes to the Autobomb to make it easier to use their feature of detecting enemies swimming in ink.
With the Angle Shooter, we’ve made changes to make it easier to take advantage of its ability to affect more distant enemies than other secondary weapons.
We’ve made changes to the Booyah Bomb to make it easier to take advantage of its properties even in quick battles between experienced players.
The next update will focus on battle balance changes based on long-term battle data analysis.
Bug fixes
Fixes to player controls
- Fixed an issue with Splat bombs and car bombs thrown in Salmon Run stages or stages with moving terrain where sometimes the actual path of the bomb thrown differs from the prediction line shown when the R key is pressed.
- Fixed an issue where when a player moving towards the screen stopped holding a charged shot and returned to Inkling or Octoling form, the character’s orientation would sometimes be confused.
- Fixed an issue where the player activated their special weapon while performing repeated dualie Dodge Rolls while running low on ink, sometimes the dualie Dodge Roll would be performed after activating the special weapon.
- Fixed an issue where when a player performed repeated dual Dodge Rolls or charged lunges after performing a Super Jump, that player’s position on other players’ screens would sometimes be severely misaligned and remain so.
- Fixed an issue where if the player activated the Big Bubbler while swimming on a wall, the Big Bubbler would sometimes be inside the field.
- Fixed an issue where when a player used Kraken Royale to attack diagonally from above a Splash Wall placed diagonally by the opponent, sometimes no damage was done to the Splash Wall even though there were no other obstacles.
- Fixed an issue where if an attack hit the start point of the incrail right before the effect of the incrail ended, it would sometimes appear as if the effect was extended even though the effect was not actually extended.
Other repairs
- Fixed an issue where when players with certain hairstyles were equipped with the Captain’s Lie replica, their appearance would not display as intended.
- Fixed an issue where the game would in rare cases crash when the player tapped an amiibo to recall the Grand Festival while the Splatfest was active.
