The name Sergei Kravinoff may sound exciting to Marvel comics fans, but to a broader audience it probably won't mean anything to you. That could change in December, however, with the arrival of a new Spider-Man Universe film from Sony, which will introduce another formidable foe of Peter Parker.
Kraven the Hunter is the pseudonym of Sergei Kravinoff mentioned, which was brought to life by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko in 1964. In the comics, he is a maniacal Russian big-game hunter whose goal is to life is to defeat Spider-Man and prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.
The film, created by Sony, will cover Kraven's origin story. Interestingly, the character, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will be very different from the comic book villain: he will not be an obsessive hunter but a conservationist and animal lover. As expected, this drastic change shocked comic book fans. However, it's worth remembering that the film is telling the story of Kraven – he could undergo a transformation to be more like his comic book prototype.
According to the filmmakers, Kraven the Hunter will be a family story mixed with a gangster story. If you want to get a taste of what's coming to theaters this December, watch the film's trailer:
When will Kraven the Hunter tickets go on sale?
Sony's new Spider-Man Universe film will be released in US and UK cinemas on Friday, December 13, 2024. According to rumors on social media, tickets for the film will be available on Friday November 29, 2024two weeks before the premiere of Kraven.
This may seem late, considering that tickets for Sony Universe's previous installment, Venom: The Last Dance, went on sale more than three weeks before the film's premiere. However, Sony can assume that the space parasite film was much more anticipated than the controversial adaptation of the Kraven comics, the premiere of which suffered several delays.
Note, however, that Sony has yet to confirm the aforementioned date.
