The Spectrum with 48 pre-installed games is available now.
PLAION, a leading global video game publisher and developer, and Retro Games Ltd. (RGL), the world's leading manufacturer of redesigned home computers, announce that The Spectrum is now available.
The replica of Sir Clive Sinclair's legendary ZX Spectrum preserves the original design and combines it with modern technology to create an irresistible mix of nostalgia and innovation.
The launch trailer can be viewed here:
Unlike previous emulations, The Spectrum is the first to faithfully recreate the design of the legendary 48k ZX Spectrum and includes 48 pre-installed games.
The design of the original device was considered unique. While devices like the Commodore 64, the BBC Micro and the ATARI 800XL shared a common aesthetic that became synonymous with home computing, the ZX Spectrum had a look and feel that didn't exist before and doesn't exist anymore.
The Spectrum aims to bring back that nostalgic feeling for retro fans with an authentic looking, sleek, minimalist design that will look great in any display case.
The wide distribution and affordability of the original ZX Spectrum encouraged creativity and resulted in games being created by small, independent companies as well as hobbyist developers. This creativity has resulted in a diverse software library of fun and quirky games – many of which are pre-installed on The Spectrum, including fan favorites Manic Miner, Horace Goes Skiing and The Hobbit.
“We are very excited about the release of The Spectrum and greatly appreciate the community’s enthusiastic support. From hidden gems to a vibrant user culture, this project really feels like Christmas 1982,” says Paul Andrews, Managing Director of Retro Games Ltd.
More interesting points about The spectrum are:
- Emulates all ZX Spectrum models from 16k to 128k
- All pre-installed games are officially licensed and can be played using only the keyboard, as was the case with the original release
- Complete list of games
- Accessibility features such as the ability to rewind the game up to 40 seconds, four save slots per title, and the ability to add your own games via a USB stick.
- Detailed control guides for all games accessible via the themed interface
- CRT filter options to simulate the image on televisions of the time
- The keys have a range of functions identified by different colored words, providing a visually interesting and practical design element
- Compatible with a variety of new and old, both proprietary and third-party controllers/joysticks
The Spectrum is available now at an RRP of $99.99 (Amazon) available. The controller is also available separately for $24.99 Amazon.
