Arcane is over – but the conclusion of Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce and Viktor's stories is more of a beginning than an end.
According to Riot Games, Fortiche and Netflix, the series finale did not happen because it was canceled; Rather, it's because it was simply the end of this particular story. But it's certainly not the end of the animated collaboration between Riot Games and Fortiche League of Legends Universe. And while there hasn't been an official announcement of a new show yet, there are plenty of new projects in the works.
According to Arcane showrunner and co-creator Christian Linke, Fortiche and Riot are exchanging ideas on all sorts of other projects in the world League of Legends World that could form the basis for a new animated series.
“We have over 160 champions in our game. There are tons of them that make me think: I want to know her story“said Linke in an interview with Polygon. “Fortunately now is the time to think about it and dream big. So we have a number of different projects that we're exploring, nothing in production yet, but we're really creating stories with all these different tones and they should be very different. They shouldn't just feel like, OK, they should have their own style, their own tone. So this is the next step for us.”
But for leftists, the appeal of a new show isn't just about venturing into a new corner league Lore, it's also about exploring a completely different tone than that of Arcane.
“We haven't done enough for the whimsical tone of league; Arcane is pretty grim,” Link said. “But there are a lot of funny characters. There are the Lulus, the Teemos, the Amumus, the Poppies, the Tristans. What do we do about it?
“And I think I would definitely want to take things with me [in a new show] to the extremes, like the different genres. What will we do in horror? What are we going to do in more abstract, artistic things? This is the true power of animation. They are not based on reality. We should take advantage of that.”
Of course, exactly when we will see Riot and Fortiche delve into these new genres and settings remains a mystery. Arcane It famously took Netflix almost a decade to come to fruition, and while we probably won't have to wait that long for a new series, it will likely be at least a few years before Netflix returns to Runeterra.
