Arcane will not have a 3rd season. Riot and Netflix have been emphasizing for months that Season 2 is the finale. But that doesn't mean we'll never return to the world of Runeterra. The stories of characters from Arcane don't necessarily have to end either!
Was plant Riot nach Arcane?
There is currently no new project officially announced. Riot has already revealed several future plans, co-founder Christian Linke said in an interview Collider: “Yes, we are currently developing a bunch of follow-up projects.”
Of course, a lot can change, but let's see what we know for now:
- Live-Action-Serie: Variety reports that Riot has already purchased scripts for a full season of an as yet undescribed Legends project. They are written by Justin Piasecki (Relay, Expendables 4).
- More animation: Linke said in an interview with Screenrant announces that he wants to bring more stories to the screen after Arcane. He also revealed that well-known characters will appear in it:
Arcane is just the beginning. We're working on a bunch of new projects, a bunch of new stories from different regions and about different characters from our IP. And some of them are actually continuations of character stories from Arcane.

Where could the next films or series take place?
Nothing official is known about the next settings yet. From Linke's statements you can already see that it will definitely be locations and characters familiar from LoL. Let's speculate carefully.
Very likely: Noxus
Important Noxian characters already appeared in Arcane, but the Empire offers many more exciting stories. Ambessa was just crowned LoL champion and got her own music video – so we think Noxus is a very likely next setting. This would also fit with the continuation of stories from Arcane that Linke mentioned.

Champions of Noxus: Ambessa, Cassiopeia, Darius, Katarina, Draven, Riven, LeBlanc, Swain, Vladimir, Rell
Also probably: Ionia
A much-expressed fan wish is Ionia, the mythological Japan of LoL, so to speak, from which some particularly popular champions come. Plus, the beautiful island nation has just finished a war with Noxus, so there could be connections with well-known characters. The captured princess from Arcane Season 1 may have been an Ionian – a subtle hint at the next setting?
Champions from Ionia: Yasuo, Yone, Ahri, Akali, Irelia, Jhin, Master Yi, Karma, Lee Sin, Kennen, Syndra, Zed
Other possible settings
The most famous regions of Runeterra at a glance:
- The Void: Home to demons and worse creatures. Probably related to the hex core and the arcane.
- Demacia: Radiant kingdom where magic is strictly regulated. Bitter enemy of Noxus.
- Freljord: The icy north of Runeterra, inhabited by brave humans, powerful beasts and cute Poros.
- Bilgewasser: Pirate town with strong Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. Located close to the cursed Shadow Isles.
- Bandle City: Home of the fluffy yordles, who can do really nasty tricks.
- Shurima: Desert land heavily inspired by Ancient Egypt.
- Ixtal: Mysterious city in the middle of the jungle, the remnant of a long-lost civilization.
- Mount Targon: Sacred and legendary mountain where enlightenment is said to await – at least for the few who survive the climb.
Due to the completely different regions, countless stories are conceivable. From a series about the fictional pop band KDA to a story from before Runeterra to the espionage drama between Demacia and Noxus. It's currently impossible to predict anything solidly, so all we can do is wait and see.
If you're thirsty for more lore but don't feel like playing LoL, then give the great tactical role-playing game Ruined King a chance! The story and gameplay are very entertaining, you don't need any prior knowledge. You can read more about this above.
