The legendary saga sees a new future opening up
ININ Games and YSNET have announced that the rights to publish the third installment of a beloved franchise, Shenmue III were transferred to ININ Games. The goal is to deepen the relationship with Yu Suzuki and his studio after the collaboration with Air Twister and thus bring the title and future titles to more platforms.
All of this coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Shenmue series and the fifth anniversary of Shenmue III, which has fans all over the world thanks to its story and characters. This saga was a pioneer in terms of an immersive open world, but the third installment was not seen in Xboxfor example, where it was in the previous ones.
After launching on Playstation and Kickstarter in between, the future of the franchise seemed quite bleak, since we haven't heard about Shenmue until now. Additionally, we've already seen that not launching games on all platforms, like Nintendo Switch or Xbox, generally doesn't yield good results.
ININ Games “feels honored to carry the torch of Shenmue at a key moment in the franchise. We remain committed to preserving and sharing Ryo Hazuki's journey with fans and newcomers to the series. Let's just hope they remember those who have been fans and users of Xbox for many years.
With this transfer of publishing rights, the saga is far from over and ININ Games has exciting plans to celebrate during the anniversaries. We will be attentive to upcoming announcements in case Microsoft consoles and suites are presented in the future.
