If you're one of those who dread WhatsApp audios or pile up just because you can't listen to them, the app is already launching a new feature that we've been asking for for years: transcribe voice messages.
Until now, you had to resort to tricks to convert WhatsApp audio from voice to text. And even if they were effective, there's nothing like having them already implemented in the application itself. Its operation is very simple and also very precise in the interpretation of messages. Even if our interlocutor speaks very quickly.
This is how WhatsApp audio transcription works
As you can imagine, converting WhatsApp audio messages from voice to text is not too complicated. In fact, all you have to do is Hold the message and select the “Transcribe” option.
The first time you do this, you will receive a guide explaining how it works and allowing you to choose the main language you use on WhatsApp. In this case, it is recommended to choose the one that you use the most in this type of messages. Spanish is included, although there is more depending on the operating system you have installed on your iPhone.
- For iPhone with iOS 16: Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, French, English, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Turkish.
- For iPhone with iOS 17: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, English, Italian, Japanese, Malay, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.
As you might have guessed, this option is not available for devices running iOS 15 or earlier. SO, It cannot be used on iPhone 7 and earlier modelssince they are not compatible with iOS 16, which is the minimum required.
Why don't you have the option to transcribe audios in WhatsApp?
The first reason is that maybe you disabled it. As standard, this is an option added to the settings and which you will not see in chats. Therefore, it is recommended that in the WhatsApp application itself you go to the “Settings” tab and enter “Chats” there to find the option “Voice message transcriptions”, which will download the necessary data to the tool.
Another reason the option may not appear is because you still haven't enabled it no matter how much you search through the settings. It's because WhatsApp launches it in stages. According to the platform itself a few days ago, it will be launched “worldwide in the coming weeks.”
Therefore, if you are in this second case, you just have to wait and update the application to its latest version, as well as to iOS. Likewise, remember that, despite the different languages in which it is available, if you receive audio in another you will not be able to transcribe it.
