Watson actor Jude Law (left) has an update for all Sherlock fans on the status of the film sequel.
A good 15 years ago, the British master detective Sherlock Holmes was very popular. In 2010, the BBC began broadcasting its acclaimed Sherlock series starring Benedict Cumberbatch in a modern setting.
Just a year earlier, director Guy Ritchie released his new interpretation of the classic Sherlock Holmes story with Marvel star Robert Downey Jr. in the role of the gifted detective and Jude Law as his loyal partner Dr. Watson. The sequel followed in 2011 with the same cast Play in the shadows
in which Holmes has to compete with his arch-rival Professor James Moriarty.

But then it became quiet about the cinema series. Although those responsible at the film studio Warner Bros. have repeatedly made it clear that there should also be a third Sherlock Holmes film with Law and Downey Jr., the planning for this has now been going on for 13 years.
A script and many open questions
Apparently there is now at least progress with the script. Like Jude Law in a recent interview with the magazine The Playlist revealed that there is now a new script version for the project, which he still has to read.
That sounds good at first, but there is still no concrete schedule for the film. Jude Law also made it clear that there were still a few questions that needed to be clarified about Sherlock Holmes 3 before filming could begin: In addition to the script, there is of course the question of how expensive it would be. And can we actually implement this?
Both Law and Downey Jr. are currently in-demand actors and have busy schedules many months in advance.
In the meantime, the personnel situation for the sequel has also changed: Director Guy Ritchie will no longer direct Sherlock Holmes 3; he is currently working on his own Sherlock project. Instead, Dexter Fletcher will take the helm in the new film.
