While we wait to find out what Naughty Dog is preparing for its next game, here's a powerful announcement that's igniting the buzz around The Last of Us 3.
We know that a new single-player game, the secret of which Naughty Dog knows, is in the pipeline and will be directed by none other than Neil Druckmann (Uncharted, TLOU). In an interview with GQ Magazine, a prominent cast member of the iconic franchise reignites fans' hopes for a highly anticipated The Last of Us 3.
A strong announcement that reignites hope around The Last of Us 3
After the slump that accompanied the discontinuation of the Sony-ordered gaming service Factions, Naughty Dog decided to cut ties to refocus on what it does best: strong single-player narrative experiences. The next project would already be quite advanced in this regard, and many are calling for a The Last of Us 3. Even if the studio prefers to keep this topic secret, many signs suggest that it will have the post-apocalyptic license straight to it a sequel.
During an interview with GQMagazine, a certain Troy Baker has added a little more fuel to the fire in this regard. As a reminder, the legendary actor plays Joel, the main protagonist of the first work. Tracing his journey and his iconic roles (including Joel in Parts 1 and 2 and Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle), he confided that he will take part in the next Naughty Dog game Director: Neil Druckmann. Considering we saw Joel mostly in flashbacks in Part 2, his return in The Last of Us 3 wouldn't be that surprising.
Of course, this announcement should be viewed with caution. Naughty Dog will no doubt say more about its next game in due course. In the meantime, we're betting that fans hoping for a return to the mushroom apocalypse the studio imagined in a currently hypothetical The Last of Us have had a major awakening since this announcement from Troy Baker. However, patience is required before we know exactly what the talented studio is preparing for us in its future title, which is definitely one to keep an eye on.
