Console hardware stands in the way of release

Console, Hardware, release, stands

According to developer Colossal Order, hardware limitations are the reason why Cities: Skylines II has still not been released on consoles.

While PC players have been busy building cities in Cities: Skylines II for over a year, there is still no official release date for the console version after its postponement in November last year.

In one Message on Steam explains developer Colossal Order that releasing the city-building simulation for consoles remains a top priority. The reason for the ongoing delay is the hardware limitations of the consoles:

“Currently we have both simulation issues (CPU) and graphics issues (GPU) that become noticeable when players perform certain actions that result in frame rate drops or memory overload. These issues are particularly challenging due to the hardware limitations of consoles.”

“When placing larger buildings that include numerous entities, the system struggles to handle the data load. There are performance bottlenecks during the calculation process (e.g. checking whether there is enough space or whether objects overlap with existing objects) that lead to these noticeable problems.”

“Once we get it to an acceptable level, further optimizations for both simulation and memory usage will be required before we can release the console version. Until these issues are resolved, we cannot provide an estimate for publication to avoid it being premature and potentially misleading. The console version remains our top priority, we have several solutions that are being actively investigated by experts, and we are working hard to bring you the console version of Cities: Skylines II.”
