Zamazenta is a legendary shield wolf from the Galar region that makes its debut in Pokémon Go in August 2021.

Like guy Sword and shield Zamazenta, the legendary Zacian, specifically has two different forms. His basic Hero of Many Battles version only has a Fighting type, while his Crowned Shield form gives him a Steel type. The Crowned Shield version of Zamazenta is not yet available Pokémon Go Therefore, this guide only provides information about his Hero of Many Battles form until he is added to the game.

This guide explains Zamazenta's weakness and best counters when he returns as part of the Max Out Finale event, which runs from November 27th to December 1st, 2024.

In its Hero of Many Battles form, Zamazenta is a pure Fighting-type Pokémon, meaning it is one weak to fairy, flying, and psychic attacks. Focus on this when building your team to deal highly effective damage.

On the other side is Zamazenta resistant up to Bug, Dark, and Rock-type moves. Avoid using these types if possible as they cause less damage and are not very effective.

Here are some of the best counters you can use when fighting Zamazenta Pokémon Go:

  • (mega) Rayquaza with Air Slash and Dragon Ascent
  • Mewtwo with confusion and psystrike
  • Lunala with confusion and clairvoyance
  • touch with confusion and clairvoyance
  • Braviery with air slash and fly
  • Staraptor with Gust and Fly
  • Metagross with Zen Headbutt and Psychic
  • (Mega) connection with confusion and clairvoyance

If you have enough Mega Energy, the best Mega Pokémon to use against Zamazenta are Mega Mega Rayquaza And Mega relationship with the same movesets recommended in the list above. Other great options include Mega wardrobe with confusion and clairvoyance or Mega pigeons with Gust and Brave Bird.

Fairy-type moves get a weather boost when it's cloudy, while Flying and Psychic-type moves get a weather boost when it's windy. Keep an eye out for these weather conditions and adjust your counter selection accordingly.

Unlike its Zacian counterpart, the Zamazenta fighting type doesn't have much use in raids or gyms. There are much better options like Terrakion, Lucario and Machamp. If you still want to use Zamazenta in PvE gameplay, choose Growling and melee.

Seeing things a few better in the Master League, where Zamazenta has the potential to take out big names like Dialga and Melmetal. It's by no means a top choice, but it's worth a try. To get the best result here, you should teach him growl using melee and crunching.

It's worth noting that Zamazenta's Crowned Shield form is expected to be a big improvement if it ever expands Pokémon Go. It's unknown when (or if) this will happen, but it's definitely something to keep in mind. Don’t write off Zamazenta just yet.

Yes, Zamazenta can be shiny In Pokémon Go. This rare variant made its debut during the Galarian Expedition in October 2024.

Note that the chances of finding a shiny Zamazenta are quite slim and there are no legitimate ways to increase the chances of this happening. It will take a mix of luck and patience, but hopefully you'll manage to stumble upon one at some point.
