Tencent recently announced that the Nintendo Switch eShop and all other online services for the Nintendo Switch will be permanently suspended in China starting in March 2026.
Tencent Holdings Ltd. distributes the Switch in mainland China after Nintendo partnered with them in 2019 to bring the hybrid handheld to the Chinese market
According to the announcement, the Chinese eShop will stop offering games on March 31, 2026, and all other online services for the system – including code redemption and downloads – will be shut down on May 15, 2026.
This will only affect those customers who bought the official Chinese version of the Switch, not those who got it from another region.
As the Switch is region-bound, many in China have chosen to import systems from elsewhere so they can connect to Switches around the world and gain access to more games than the choices available on the Chinese version.
