WhatsApp is a platform that allows you to do much more than send messages, it even has its own artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI. The app is packed with features and tips that they make our lives easier when we chat with contacts and even with companies.
One of these little-known functions is represented by a flag icon. If you've seen it in one of your group or individual chats, you may have wondered: what is it and what is it for? Below we tell you everything about this useful feature.
What does the flag icon mean in WhatsApp and how to use it
WhatsApp has several options to personalize our chats and organize our messages. The flag icon, for example, can be very useful for help us quickly find the most important messageseven in chats with self-destructing messages.
The app has an option to automatically delete messages from time to time, if you want. It is about temporary messagesand can be configured both in a group and in individual chats.
After a certain period of time, which can be from one day to three months, all messages from this type of chat will disappear forever. Flag icon This helps us preserve these important messages, preventing them from self-destructing.
We can enable temporary messages this way in chats:
- In any individual or group chat, click the chat name to access the options menu.
- On this screen, we activate the Temporary messages option and we select the time we want to pass before the messages are automatically deleted: 24 hours, 7 days, 90 days
We can even configure all new chats to start with temporary messages enabled, if we wish.
Once temporary messages are enabled, we can save the most important messages in this way:
- We maintain the message we want to save
- We select the flag icon from the options at the top of the screen
From then on, the message has been saved and will not disappear after the expiration of the time determined between the chat options.
While traditional chats, that is, those without temporary messages, allow messages to be marked as favorites, the function of saving temporary messages with the flag icon allows us to save important information even in groups which constantly reset their content.
