On the social network he owns, X.com, Elon Musk announced that he wanted to create a studio to “ Make games great again », based on the slogan of Donald Trump, the recently re-elected President of the United States. He therefore wants to undertake the ambitious project of restoring glory to video games… by massively exploiting what is considered one of the developers' worst enemies.
Elon Musk's crazy new project, this time around video games
In a recent post on his official X.com account, Elon Musk said the following: “ Too many video game studios are owned by large corporations. With xAI, we will launch an AI-powered development studio to make games great again “. The idea is therefore to develop games exclusively with artificial intelligence. A concept that, as we have seen on several occasions, is extremely controversial.
As a reminder, more and more studios are using AI to reduce costs and time spent on certain processes that are considered boring. However, the idea of using this tool to fully create a game is viewed with curiosity at best and with great fear and skepticism at worst, sometimes leading to outright outcry from developers. Many players in the industry are rightly afraid of being replaced by a machine by the companies that Elon Musk criticizes in order to save significant costs. Especially since the “creative” potential of an AI is controversial. Since this is nourished by other creations, at the moment it generally only reproduces what already exists. It is therefore, to say the least, difficult to imagine how this studio, based solely on this tool, could achieve Elon Musk's ambitious goal.
For the record: The head of “major corporations” like Tesla and SpaceX is himself an avid gamer, especially Diablo 4. But running a development studio presents a completely different challenge. It remains to be seen if (or when?) Elon Musk will have his idea will be implemented and what form it will take. Many of the entrepreneur's admirers seem to have high hopes for this project. For better or for worse?
