As of 2019, Planet Zoo has amassed an impressive collection of over 190 species. Each animal is carefully modeled and exhibits an impressive realism that makes them appear almost alive. A work of art that did not go unnoticed by Jörg Neumann, responsible for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
In fact, he revealed in an interview that he had contacted Frontier Developments CEO Jonny Watts directly. “I asked him if I could use the animals from Planet Zoo. He said: 'Why not ?'” he says. Result: the entire fauna of Planet Zoo was integrated into the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. A brilliant idea that enriches the game's terrestrial landscapes.
An advance for ground environments
The integration of these animals is part of a broader transformation of the terrestrial environment. Asobo Studio's mission is to make ground locations as immersive as a first-person game. To do this, the developers analyzed thousands of tiles of satellite data and identified each texture: sand, grass, asphalt, stones… A precision that further enhances the beauty and realism of the game.
Despite some imperfections, such as unfinished mountain villages, the progress is impressive. The sight of herds of animals moving through natural environments adds a new dimension to the game.
