The wait is over and after several betas and two Release Candiate builds, iOS and iPadOS 18.2 were released today, along with macOS 15.2 with new features, including more advancements in Apple Intelligence.
Apple has confirmed that new updates for our devices that represent a step forward in Apple Intelligence will be available today, although at the moment they are still not available in Europe. Today, the number of countries in which Apple's artificial intelligence can be used is increasing, reaching Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom, always in English. All changes included in these updates are detailed below:
iOS and iPadOS 18.2
Picture Playground
- A new app that lets you use concepts, descriptions, and people from your photo library to create fun, playful images in multiple styles
- Browse previews and choose as you add concepts to your playground
- Choose between animation and illustration styles when creating your image
- Create images in Messages and Freeform, as well as third-party apps
- Images sync to your Image Playground library across all your iCloud devices
Genmoji
- Genmoji lets you create a custom emoji directly from the keyboard
- Genmoji syncs with your sticker drawer across all your iCloud-enabled devices
ChatGPT support
- OpenAI's ChatGPT is accessible directly from Siri or writing tools
- Writing tools let you create something from scratch with ChatGPT
- Siri can leverage ChatGPT when relevant to give you an answer
- A ChatGPT account is not required and your requests will be anonymous and will not be used to train OpenAI models
- Log in with ChatGPT to access your account benefits and requests will be covered by OpenAI data policies
- Image Wand turns handwritten or typed sketches and notes into images in Notes
- Describe your change. Writing tools allow you to suggest how you would like to rewrite something, for example as a poem.
Camera control (iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max)
- Visual intelligence with camera control helps you instantly learn about locations or interact with information simply by pointing your iPhone at the object, with the ability to tap Google Search or ChatGPT.
- The camera's two-stage shutter control allows you to lock the focus and exposure on the camera by pressing the camera's control light.
- Mail Categorization categorizes your messages to help you prioritize the most important messages
- Summary view groups all messages from a sender into one package for easy navigation
Photos
- Improvements to video display, including the ability to clear frame by frame and a setting to disable auto-loop video playback.
- Improvements when navigating Collections views, including the ability to swipe right to return to the previous view
- You can clear the history of recently viewed and recently shared albums
- The Favorites album appears in the Utilities collection in addition to pinned collections.
Safari
- New background images to personalize your Safari homepage
- Import and Export allows you to export your browsing data from Safari and import browsing data from another app to Safari.
- HTTPS priority updates URLs to HTTPS whenever possible
- Live activity shows the progress of a file download in Dynamic Island and on your home screen
Others
- Voice Memos supports layered recording, allowing you to add vocals to an existing song idea without the need for headphones, then import your two-track projects directly into Logic Pro (iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max).
- Item location sharing in Find My helps you locate and recover lost items by easily and securely sharing the location of an AirTag or Find My network accessory with trusted third parties, such as airlines.
- Natural language search in Apple Music and the Apple TV app lets you describe what you're looking for using any combination of categories like genres, moods, actors, decades, and more.
- Favorite Categories in Podcasts lets you choose your favorite categories and get relevant show recommendations that you can easily access in your library.
- The personalized podcast search page highlights the most relevant categories and editorial collections tailored to your needs.
- Sudoku for News+ Puzzles offered in three difficulty levels and available to News+ subscribers
- Hearing test support on AirPods Pro 2 in Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, USA, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom
- Headphone support for AirPods Pro 2 in the UAE
- Pre-market stock quotes allow you to follow the NASDAQ and NYSE tickers before the market opens.
- Fixes an issue where recently taken photos did not immediately appear in the All Photos grid

macOS 15.2
- Image Playground is the new application for creating original images
- ChatGPT is now integrated into Siri
