The ceremony of Game rewards This year brought a good handful of new releases and a few surprises, but one of the most anticipated was definitely the first trailer for The Witcher IVwhich in this case will not feature Geralt like the first three, but rather his student, Ciri. But as hardware fans, we'll stick to the most technical part: the gameplay scenes that we can see in the trailer were shot with Unreal Engine 5 using one of the new GeForce RTX 50. Yes, the same ones that we all hope NVIDIA will officially announce at CES 2025 in early January.
At this point, anything related to the next generation of NVIDIA graphics cards is pure rumor, leak, or speculation. However, it's no secret that the company has been working on it for some time and, in fact, as we already mentioned, it is expected to officially announce it in early January. Overall, what we got to see in this trailer confirms the fact that these graphics are closer than ever.
The Witcher IV with an NVIDIA RTX 50
The Witcher IV will be the first video game in the saga that will not have the charismatic Geralt of Rivia as protagonist; In this case, it will be his student, Cirilla, that we will manage (we already did it during a game of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it must be said). But an interesting fact, and which we can actually read (in English) as soon as we put on the trailer, is that although it is cinematic (that is to say it doesn't actually show in-game scenes), the scenes were rendered using the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine with a yet-to-be-announced NVIDIA GeForce graphics card… and what could that be? Well, an RTX 50 Series of course, here we go.
Although CD Projekt Red didn't give any more information, and the unknowns about the release date or platforms remain just that, unknowns, they did reveal two pretty important things: firstly, that the game seems to be developed with the Unreal Engine 5 engine, and on the other hand, that somehow NVIDIA could be involved in the development, otherwise how would CD Projekt Red have access to the brand's graphics that n have not yet been announced.
This is quite common, you already know that NVIDIA, Intel and AMD usually get involved in the development of certain games to optimize the performance of their products and thus give users a reason to choose them over the competition. By the way, although nothing is known about the release date, we do know that the company started full development of the game only a few weeks ago, so it is possible that it will be several months before we have a response from The Witcher. IV.
There are other interesting things that are revealed
Now sticking to The Witcher IV itself, the trailer confirmed some pretty interesting things. For example:
- The protagonist will be Ciri and not Geralt, as we have already said.
- Ciri ends up becoming a witch, although it was something that was speculated about in The Witcher 3's story and never came to pass. She is seen using signs and drinking concoctions, both of which unequivocally indicate that she is a witch no matter what.
- The official name is also confirmed: The Witcher IV (editor's note, IV and no. 4).
- Seeing Ciri in the trailer, she looks a few years older than she did in The Witcher 3, suggesting that this is the sequel to the third installment. It is currently unknown how they will explain Ciri's return and Geralt's whereabouts after The Witcher 3 ends.
Aside from that, CD Projekt Red has stated that this will be the most immersive game in the world of The Witcher in history, although that doesn't tell us much either. We understand that they are talking about scale, and the truth is that if the third part was already huge…
