Warren Spector, the father of the cult franchise Deus Ex, returns to business and infiltration with Thick as Thieves. A brand new license that will upend the creator's habits.
Although it never achieved real commercial success, the Deus Ex license had its aura and is still considered a monument of the RPG and cyberpunk universe. So much so that Square Enix shelved it. When Eidos changed stables, many hoped to see her coming back through the front door. This didn't take into account the disastrous management of the “video game gravedigger” Embracer, who ultimately decided to put an end to the sequel under investigation. Its inventor, Warren Spector, has never hidden his incomprehension about this sad decision, but the person concerned is already busy with his new game: Thick as thieves.
The creator of Deus Ex returns with Thick as Thieves
Warren Spector, having failed to understand Embracer's murder of Deus Ex, makes progress. A little earlier this year, the creator and his studio OtherSide Entertainment announced that they would be returning to immersive simulation… but in multiplayer! Yes, it's a big departure that will likely be poorly received, but it's the direction chosen for Thick as Thieves, which peaked at the 2024 Game Awards.
Like Deus Ex, Thick as Thieves is an immersive simulation that places a premium on infiltration in a multiplayer PvPvE game. “Plan your rise to the highest levels of flight in the heart of a 1910s metropolis as magnificent as it is dark, where industry, magic and intrigue mingle.”.
As with other immersive sims like Dishonored, there are many ways to move around the city. You can silence alarms, pick locks, prevent civilians from speaking, or listen to a barmaid after a few drinks… The next game from the creator of Deus Ex doesn't have a release window yet. but it's coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
