There's a new development in the saga about whether Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of Bloodborne and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware, and Sony will put Elden Ring on it. Sony itself has officially confirmed its interest in such an acquisition, telling everyone that it appreciates not having to talk about it anymore until it's ready.
A Reuters report in late November was the first we heard the deal might be done. Kadokawa later confirmed that it had received interest from the giant company behind PlayStation, adding that no decision had yet been made on whether to accept the takeover.

Now, Sony has broken its silence on the matter in a report from Yahoo Japan, as translated by VGC.
Asked about plans to acquire Kadokawa, Sony said: “We have indeed made an initial statement of intent.” He added: “We would appreciate it if you would allow us not to comment further.”
So, that's it. That's literally it, pretty much just a “yeah, we've taken the first step in the direction of doing this, now please stop making us talk about it”.
As far as we know, it's no surprise that both sides are currently tight-lipped given that these negotiations are still ongoing. After all, neither party likely wants any potential marriage to be derailed or negotiations made more difficult by someone saying something that offends the other person at this stage.
While there hasn't been much other information about Sony's potential acquisition of Kadokawa so far, a report from Bushun (thanks to Automaton) recently claimed that some of the former's employees would welcome such a move due to dissatisfaction with the current Kadokawa president and CEO Xia Yewu's administration.
As we noted in our initial report on these talks, if Sony were to acquire Kadokawa, it would be acquiring more than FromSoft. Danganronpa developer Spike Chunsoft, Octopath Traveler co-developer Acquire and RPG Maker developer Gotcha Gotcha Games are also owned by Kadokawa. As we write here, there are implications from an anime and manga perspective as well, considering this is another big part of what Kadokawa does.
