Capcom, finally, hoped, Okami, Onimusha, planning, Returns, sequels, Turns, works

Capcom had a big night at The Game Awards this week with the return of several classic games, and it sounds like they won't be the last.

It looks like Capcom can't keep up its winning streak just yet, as it made two exciting announcements at this year's Game Awards. First up is the dark and vibrant new Onimusha, which looks to be a proper return after the last entry in the series became a VR title this year, having not been since 2018. The real star of the night, though, was undoubtedly Capcom's collaboration with Hideki Kamiya's new studio, Clovers, to create a sequel to Okami, one of the most popular PS2 JRPGs, 18 years after its original release.

Just this July, Kamiya asked Capcom to let him work on Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3, so unless he's a bit cheeky, the Okami sequel in the works will be a fairly new development. Regardless, both games have been forgotten about by Capcom for some time, and in a press release accompanying the announcement, the developer made it clear that these games wouldn't be the only revivals of older games from its catalog.

“In addition to regularly releasing major new games each year, Capcom is also committed to reactivating dormant IPs that have not recently released new games,” the developer explained in a press release. “The company is working hard to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich content library, which includes reviving past IPs such as the two aforementioned games, to continue producing efficient, high-quality games.”

Maybe Kamiya will finally get his wish with “Big Joe 3”! Of course, of course, all Dino Crisis fans are craving new ones, and I personally wouldn't be opposed to a new Lost Planet.
