Two e-athletes from the Overwatch League have received an official penalty for making "inappropriate" jokes in a chat during a live match. Specifically, they had the terms "Sex" and "Big Dick" in the in the player chat written.
The two offenders are Mun "Lastro" Jung-won from the Los Angeles Valiant team and Kim "Rascal" Dong-jun from San Francisco Shock. Apparently, the two were not aware that not only their teammates, but all viewers were able to watch the live broadcastwhat they just typed.
One of her teammates then also informed her via chat that her comments are visible to everyone and they should stop immediately. At least Lastro reacted quickly and apologized several times with the abbreviation "Sry". A Twitter user recorded the live chat history in screenshots:

$ 1,000 for penis jokes
Blizzard has already posted the penalties for Lastro and Rascal on the official website of the Overwatch League: They have to pay $ 1,000 each, otherwise they obviously do not expect any further sanctions. The exact violation of the rule was "inappropriate chat during a league match".
Both professional players have already responded via Twitter: During Rascal only tweeted a gif video from late show host Conan O'BrianLastro, ashamedly hiding his face behind his hand (also known as Facepalm), Lastro shows great remorse for his action.
In his posting, he writes that he didn't know that viewers could see the chat during the match. He just wanted to make a joke.
However, he also admits that he shouldn't have written the terms either way, no matter who gets to see them. He would make sure that this never happened again.
I thought the viewers could not see the match chat because everyone was typing in it. I wrote it as a joke, although I should not have done it regardless of whether the viewers could see the match chat or not. I will make sure something like this never happens again.

Incidentally, this was not the first case in which the Overwatch League had to impose penalties on its players. In 2018, for example, we reported that some e-athletes were even punished for homophobic and racist statements.
