Fans of Assassin's Creed will have to continue to wait for Shadows, set in feudal Japan, as Ubisoft is now postponing the game for a third time.
If everything had gone smoothly, we would all have been able to get our hands on Assassin's Creed Shadows long ago, but that's not how it is. The latest part of the series, which is set in feudal Japan, was originally supposed to come onto the market in 2024, but after two postponements, February 14, 2025 was the latest release date. Now it's clear: Nothing will come of this either!
Today the developer and publisher officially announced a third postponement of the release date of Assassin's Creed Shadows. The title has been pushed back for several more weeks and is now expected to be available on March 20, 2025 – unless something comes up again.
The recent shift is due to broader strategic considerations. After Star Wars Outlaws, which fell short of expectations, Ubisoft is now more than ever committed to publishing titles with the “very best gaming experience”, wants to increase efficiency and thus maximize the value of its own creations.
It goes on to say: The month of additional development time is intended to “allow the team to better incorporate player feedback.” Finally, CEO Yves Guillemot emphasizes that the development team hopes to “create the most ambitious Assassin's Creed within the franchise”; the additional development time should reflect this project.
The past year wasn't a good one for Ubisoft, as more or less all releases (XDefiant, Skull & Bones, Star Wars Outlaws) turned out to be failures. The turnaround should now be successful with Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin's Creed: Shadows, which introduces and presents the game world in Japan in more detail.
