Communication around the future game for Mass Effect veterans is gaining momentum, in this case there is particularly promising new information.
Developed by Archetype Entertainment, a young studio with many Mass Effect veterans, Exodus promises to be a high-end space RPG. Following a recently released promising trailer, the developers held a question and answer session to answer burning questions from players interested in the upcoming title. This allowed us to learn more, especially about the film's grand ambitions on a narrative level.
A new exodus for fans longing for Mass Effect?
In many ways, Exodus definitely presents itself as a very serious competitor to a Mass Effect 4 that is eagerly desired. While BioWare is no longer really popular with gamers, Archetype Entertainment's title could even become the new benchmark space RPG. This is thanks in particular to the ambitious narrative, driven above all by the relationships our character can build from the ground up with his companions.
At its core, Exodus will actually feature a unique time dilation mechanic. Our travels across the galaxy will actually cause time to pass differently depending on the system we visit. A jump could mean a few months for us, but in reality it could mean several years or even decades elsewhere. Therefore, the companions we can welcome into our crew could age dramatically as our paths diverge. James Ohlen, Creative Director of Exodus, a position he also held on the Mass Effect license, explains this in the video below.
The narrative implications of this mechanic are therefore huge for the development of our character and his story. On paper, this would make it possible to offer each player a truly unique adventure. However, from a game design perspective, this could be a headache for developers. However, after their remarkable work on the legendary Mass Effect trilogy, we'd be inclined to trust them. However, we still have to wait a while before we can see the result with our own eyes. However, given its progress, the title is likely to be released well ahead of a certain Mass Effect 4, although BioWare recently stepped it up a gear with the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
