“Poison in the roots“is part of the main quest line in Diablo 4 Season 7, Season of Witchcraft. To complete it, you must help the witches of the Tree of Whispers by completing a special ritual. This quest contains some light puzzle elements that can make it a bit tricky.
Included Diablo 4 Guide, we give you a comprehensive overview Poison in the Roots walkthrough.including instructions on how to navigate the ritual puzzle.
How to complete the ritual in Poison in the Roots in Diablo 4
When you have given enough Grim favors (By running Whispers in the world), you can start the Poison in the Roots quest and will be asked to speak to the witches at the Tree of Whispers. The scene goes black and when you regain control, the witches have prepared a ritual. The ritual consists of four parts:
- Light the braziers
- Collect Nangari Blood
- Trace the ritual circle
- Protect the ritual
We will detail each step below.
Solving the Brazier Puzzle in Poison in the Roots
In the first step of the ritual, the witches ask you to “invoke the ancient name of the tree in the correct order.” This is a fancy Diablo talk on the theme of “click on the three witches in the correct order.” If you listen to what they say (or check the chat log), each witch has a magic word that they use in a specific order says you have to repeat.
Talk to the witches and activate their braziers in this order:
- “Ouch” (brazier bottom left, Gelena)
- “yew” (bottom right brazier, caidin)
- “Oun” (Upper Brazier, Ouna)
As you speak to the witches and select their prompt in this order, all three braziers will be lit at the same time, progressing the ritual.
All you need to do for the Nangari blood step is: Kill the three snakes in the ritual circle. When everyone dies, they drop some blood, which you just have to collect like any other item.
How to trace the ritual circle with Nangari blood
Spreading the blood around the circle step is a little confusing because it's unlike anything else you really have to do in Diablo. When the witches ask you to “pursue the ritual circle with Nangari blood,” the game requires you to do the following Walk your character through the outer circle of the ritual, essentially where the braziers are located.
You may have to go through the circle a few times before the blood becomes visible, but eventually it will appear in the area and you're done with this step.
How to keep Hollows out of the ritual circle
For the final step of this quest, all you have to do is do it Kill all Hollows enemies who try to disrupt the ritual. These enemies are relatively weak in terms of health, and all but the boss enemies should collapse under the pressure of even your most basic skills. If you're having trouble keeping the Hollows out of the ritual while leveling, consider lowering the difficulty as low as possible until you've completed this quest – you can always increase it again immediately afterward.
Once they're all dead and the ritual is complete, you'll complete the quest, be teleported back to the open world map, and receive some minor rewards (a legend and a supply of various salvage). More importantly, you can further advance the seasonal questline and unlock more witch powers.
As this season begins, here's the best Spiritborn build, all Tenets of Akarat locations, and guides on how to unlock mercenaries and get more loot in Kurast Undercity.
