A company now sells a “organic computer”, which partly works with a human brain. And he should be able to surpass conventional AI in some areas.

Imagine that a computer would be operated with human brain cells – or at least with parts of it. What sounds like the material of a dark science fiction story has now become a reality and is available for sale. There is a computer that works with parts of the human brain. This extraordinary technology should even offer advantages over classic AI.

Model CL1 from the Australian company Cortical Labs uses neurons from the human brain that form networks on a silicon chip, interact with a computer system and process data through neuronal activity patterns. These neurons are obtained from stem cells, which were extracted from blood samples. You can be kept “alive” for up to six months within the machine. How to get “replenishment” afterwards is currently unclear.

Use “biological intelligence” instead of artificially reproducing them

According to the manufacturer, the great advantage of the CL1 with human neurons and so -called “biological intelligence” is that brain cells enable processes that can only imitate artificial intelligence – and for which artificial neural networks should be developed.

Emphasized on your website Cortical Labs In addition, the CL1 could help research the effects of diseases on the human brain in real time. Overall, the CL1 should be more energy-efficient and need fewer training data than conventional AI systems.

Available for $ 35,000 or as a cloud service

If you don't want to pay the $ 35,000 for the organic computer with human brain cells-according to the news portal The Independent Should that be the price – can use the CL1 via the cloud platform. The system researchers and technology companies for experiments are available for experiments via the “Cortical Cloud” – without having to acquire the chip and computer. No prices for the Cloud use of CL1 are currently known. From June, the first orders for their own organic computer are to be sent.
