In times when hoaxes and fake news (fake news) are on the rise. The latest WhatsApp measure against them has turned to him with a hoax that runs like wildfire and that is completely false: WhatsApp looks nothing, just sets the message. We explain everything below.
The first thing we must do is make it clear we will talk about two very different things, but that it is a hoax that goes online and our WhatsApp completely mixes with purpose. On the one hand, the measure taken to reduce the time limit the message can be sent to several contacts, on the other hand, looking at fake news.
Message transmission limit
In the past, the messaging app has chosen to reduce the limit of forwarding messages up to five contacts or groups at a time. It was a standard established in the same way as the thing we are talking about today, fighting hoaxes and fake news, even though it didn't work much. For this reason, we have now decided to continue worldwide (I emphasize, globally) restricting the transmission of messages to a single contact or group. What messages cannot be transmitted to an individual or group? Those sent frequently, at least five times before you.
Look at the picture, the two relay messages, but on one of them two transfer arrows, on the other. The first was marked by WhatsApp as a frequently sent message, second no. So the first one will not be able to send more than one contact, and the second one will not be able to send to more than five others. And WhatsApp will process when that message is created by someone from your contacts to mark it this way.
This rating has nothing to do with content testing, WhatsApp does not tag messages for their content, but only for the number of times it is forwarded. In addition, they couldn't do it, because the content of the messages was encrypted, so WhatsApp couldn't. The app can restrict a funny kitty video, or a titter of political content, simply marking it based on the number of times it is posted.
News screening
Related to fake news but completely independent as we mentioned earlier, Facebook (and WhatsApp) have started to work with various agencies around the world to facilitate verification of hoaxes and fake news to users. In Spain the two agencies participating in "Maldito Bulo" (Maldita.es) and "Newtral" (Newtral.es), but you can see the complete list of items from around the world on this WhatsApp website link. How do these structures work? They will not in any way confirm the messages that are coming to you or sending them, because as I have already stated that they are encrypted, WhatsApp cannot contain the content.
So whether Newtral, Maldita or any other organization on the list can check the authenticity of the news or messages you receive you must add them to your contact list and send the message directly to them, so that they know the content and look at it, and will give you feedback once they are done. Obviously, this is completely optional and always requested by the user, I repeat, will not be automatically generated by your messages because they do not have access to them. If you want to add them to your contact list, their phone numbers appear in the link I set earlier.
Let's stop the brakes
As you can see, there are two related things that are related but are very different. On the other hand, the limit on automatic transmission of messages, on the other hand, is a news check, which is always requested by the user. Lack of information or bad intent has created a hoax to the extent that we are trying to fight them … this is life.
