In Episode 8 of Season 5 of Outlander, Jamie cuts off Roger hanging from the tree. Jamie realized that Roger was still alive, and a few months later, Roger's voice improved. However, Roger refused to speak, even though Claire said he should actually be able to speak. At the same time, Roger was troubled by his hanged memories. Brianna is not sure if Roger can handle the incident.

Jocasta visits the tomb of Murtagh on the Fraser's Ridge. Jamie later said goodbye and was overwhelmed with grief over Mutag ’s death. He asked Claire to heal the grief, but Claire believed that only time itself could close the wound.

Lord John visited Brianna and Roger. He wanted to give them nearly 2,000 hectares of land to apologize for the mistake that caused Roger to hang. At the same time, Roger suffered a panic attack. Lord John also put an astrolabe for Brianna, which she can use to identify her position in the universe and read the time.

Jamie and Claire visit Roger and Brenna. When Jem tried to touch a cauldron, Roger roared and warned that Jem might be burned. Brianna was happy with Roger's speech, but he refused to continue. Claire and Jamie hide and seek in the forest and they are attacked by wild boars. They were rescued by Cherokee [Iro]. This fully adopted the Cherokee culture. The news of the reunion with Roger then remained silent.

Later, Ian confirmed that he would not return to Cherokeses, but did not want to explore the reason further. The land given to them by Lord John on behalf of Tyron is to be investigated, and Jamie recommends that Roger and Ian do this. When they left, Claire noticed the lack of a hemlock in her medicine cabinet.

The next morning, Roger saw Ian buried his hatchet and was using a fire to make himself a wok to kill himself. Roger kicked the pot away, which made Ian angry. Ian forced Roger to talk to him. Obviously, Ian lost her wife to the Cherokees, but she is still alive. However, he mourned for her, and Roger had no reason to mourn, after all, he still has a wife and a child.

Roger returned to Brianna and said her name, which made her very happy. He doubted whether he would become the man before the hang. Brianna could understand that after all, she also had a very painful experience. They sang a song together and kept loving each other.
