Is Crytek working on a remaster from Crysis or even on a completely new series part? A cryptic tweet from the official Twitter account – the first since December 2016 – shows that this could actually be the case.
The published message "Receiving data" could at least indicate that the game series is back among the living:
RECEIVING DATA
– Crysis (@ Crysis) April 13, 2020
Is there a new Crysis?
It is of course not possible to tell from the tweet whether a new Crysis or a new edition of the popular shooter is actually being worked on. However, there are quite a few other indications that suggest a possible continuation or a remaster.
As we reported last week, the Crysis website has recently been updated and is now shining in new splendor. While this previously only redirected to the website of developer Crytek, its visitors can now see the protagonist Nomad in a nano suit.
A recently released trailer for the Cryengine also gives rise to speculation. In addition to a variety of different games that have used the Cryengine in the past decade, a section of the first Crysis from 2007 appeared apparently incoherently:
Fans on Reddit have analyzed the scene closely and found that the shown is new material that seems to be a mixture of the original from 2007 and the console version from 2011 – or could actually come from the possible remake:
- New lighting effects and shaders.
- The Nanosuit behaves like the 2011 version. The speed mode is a simple sprint instead of a separate suit mode. There is a slight difference in the user interface as the suit mode icon does not turn yellow when changed, as is the case with other versions.
- The camouflage effect is similar to the 2011 version, which is based on Crysis 2. The weapon lightens before a visible hexagonal pattern appears on it. In the 2007 version, the weapon is simply transparent and has a purple shimmer in places.
- The Scar model differs from both 2007 and 2011. The green dots on the back are missing and the two small tires on the back of the weapon have disappeared.
- The map / radar has north, south, east, west like the 2011 version, rather than directions like the northeast like the 2007 version.
- An indistinct radio chatter can be heard in the background.
- The PC version's lightwave effects seem to be missing, or they were wiped out by YouTube compression.
- As in the 2011 version, the HUD has been removed from the edges of the screen.
Of course, this is all about Guesswork and rumors – Crytek has not officially announced anything yet. Since the developers are now fueling the rumors themselves with the cryptic tweet, there could actually be tangible news about the popular shooter series in the near future.
