In mid-March we spoke to you for the first time about Camera Go, a very exciting project by Google to bring its camera (Gcam) to cheap phones. This camera allows, among others, that single-camera calls can generate and enjoy Google's efficient processing of Pixels.
We've been able to test the app, downloading from Sourceforge, so it's worth commenting on what we will get with the camera app and what benefits it can bring compared to native camera programs from other manufacturers.
Camera Go: less than 30 megabytes of Gcam
Gcam installed on other devices typically weighs between 80 and megabytes, depending on the individual libraries of the phone. Significant weight of the camera app. Go camera tries the opposite, give the highest possible minimum weight. Specifically, the version we tested has a capacity of only 12.2 megabytes (APK), if it has been installed up to 24 megabytes.
At installation level, at least in this first version, we were able to test it on various devices, via Qualcomm, Kirin and Exynos processors. Although victory should not be sung at the time of this, as we will see later.
Camera interface interface it's almost like Google's own camera. Below we have an image, image, video and translator options. On the Pixel we have night mode, graphics, camera, video and "over" options that hide footage, slow motion, Google Lens, etc. The Go camera loses features, but retains the basics.
The great advantage of this camera is that it will let us know if we are able to take a few pictures due to the internal memory. In the same way, we will always be at odds with the photos we can take
On the surface we find a very useful function, especially when we consider that this camera is designed for phones with little internal memory. We can see the number of photos we can take before the memory runs out, A useful and curious fact. The selection section is also similar to that of Pixels. Flash, timer and beauty mode settings. Here we lose the live photos and full settings menu.
A few lines above we noted that there is no singing victory even though APK works on all phones. This is because the APK is ripe, but this is not enough. To enjoy the benefits of Google Camera in a non-Pixel platform, it is necessary to make a hole, that is, to convert the APK into a hardware terminals that will use this application.
Translate that there is no improvement when we use this application, as Google's normal processing is not done. However, since XDA Developers pointed out that HDR HDR technology is already being used within the system, something can be before and after using it. At the moment, it is not very important to install it because it is completely unstable and there is no development, but it is safe to follow because it is likely that in the short term we will start to see the ports that will bring real development.
