We are only for weeks away from a brand new Mario Kart, and to say that we are excited is significant underestimation. The passage for the Major, who has arrived in the waves starting in 2022, has been inhaled by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's life, but the basic mechanics below is the same MK8 we have been playing since May 2014 at WII U.
Don't get us wrong – we loved every minute with the best -selling game of Switch (and we enjoyed live: home circle, and we liked a tour more than most), but after that a decade Of these, we are definitely ready to expand our perspectives and explore the new world – even the world Mario Kart.
As we gather on the net and start turning the engine, we use this for the storm to look at the rearview mirror and look at how much Mario comes in his map from his debut race back in 1992.
In this “Countdown” series, the NL staff will look back at every game in the series and follow the racing line that took us from Super Mario Kart to Mario Kart World over 33 (!) Year. We will discuss the accessories that each entry brought, as they developed as the circles passed, the things we loved, the things we gladly left behind and what Mario Kart World takes from everyone.
Start your engines …

I am a child in a large scheme of Nintendo history, so it's been a long time before I first played Super Mario Kart. I think I first saw on Wii or maybe even a new 3DS virtual console where it all started. And that has to be said … I wasn't so impressed.
I think a lot of professionals Super Mario ticket comes down to the fact that it is the first. I'm sure yes, if you didn't play already later, they would be a quality fun with two players. Sprites are full of SNES sweetness, the concept is so out, and the courses, although quite dry by today's standards, were a great solution for 16-bit hardware restrictions.
Return to him 2025 is interesting. It is a game that set the template for a series I know and love, and is full of a type of nostalgic charm that is just a hyper-The Issue Dumping button and flattened object frames can bring. But I miss the feeling of stupidity and party vibrations I look for in the Mario map.
It is worth playing on NSO if you haven't started it for several years, but I can't say that I would go back to it … any other entry in the series. – Jim Norman
- Population songs: Bowser's Castle 3, Vanilla Lake 2, Rainbow Road
- Fun fact: AND Play manual Has special classification names for each of the drivers: “Bros.” For Mario and Luigi, “Dragon and Lady” for Yoshi and Peach, “The Showdown” for Bowser and DK Jr., and (my personal favorite) “Little Guys” for Koopa and Toad
- What is Mario Kart World taken from this? Only the entire concept of Mario & Co. In Karts, plus objects and iconic sites such as Rainbow Road. A silly format would later get into its own, but this is the foundation.

Mario Kart 64 was my first, so he would always hold a special place on the podium. Either this The game, along with Goldeneya, which was obviously a blessing of four controllers built into the front of your console. What does not mean that I spent a huge amount of time playing MK64 with four players-you were expensive pads!
In fact, most of my 64-bit carders were two players and much that They spent battles in a block or skyscraper fortress, hitting 'A' and 'B' at the same time to turn to the cave and hide down the green-school on my brother. Sometimes we would make three players, even if we only played two because the Pal version for some reason would start faster speed in NTSC style.
I leaned toward DK or Wariou, but even in the time when the characters of Sprites felt 'old' compared to large polygonal drivers/pilots in the Diddy Kong races. The circles, however, were such a jump over flat, 16-bit loops. With more trails and danger of the environment, as well as opponents holding objects, Snes Original feels like a straight runner compared to the carnival atmosphere, countless danger and bold shortcuts here. Performing shortcuts by Mario Raceway Wall-haul for three rounds in a row remains one of my greatest playing achievements. You fry the little one in the scheme of things, but I still keep those ghost information!
Special shouting of music has also burned forever in my synaptic paths. I needed a rhythm to understand why I smiled so much during Mario Kart World DirectBut then it clicked: The theme of Raceway He was playing. Play Helluva. – Gavin Lane
- Population songs: Royal Raceway, Koopa Troopa Beach, Yoshi Valley, Toad's Turnpike
- Fun fact: If everything is small, you can guess 'l' to completely turn off the music or turn off the music
- What is Mario Kart World taken from this? The first four players Mario Kart, 64 set a template for Multiplayer Mayhem to follow, with crazy songs and new ones who directed the series beyond the straight race

Mario Kart Super Circle was my Introduction to the series, and although I am aware that it is not particularly favorable these days, I still absolutely adore its simplicity. Provided that in recent years he has lagged behind in my personal rank, but even now I can still appreciate his simplified approach compared to MK64 and Double Dash; The old one is better than Super Mario Kart.
I still remember playing it in the back of the car whenever my family was on the way to the holiday destination (deftly leaning my original GBA to catch the light); Even when I washed every GP and gained the best rows, I would return and play again through everything. The controls only felt so smooth, and although I probably enjoyed the superstar saga and the links with the past, just a little more, Super Circuit is one of my favorite GBA games in clean games.
Returning to him in 2025, I admit that I had to spend time acclimatizing on controls, which may not be a problem I would have predicted with any other entry (except the original). In particular, the incredibly jerk was twitching. He definitely flew straight into the wall several times. Or lake. Not ideal. – Ollie Reynolds
- Population songs: Sky Garden, Boo Lake, Sunset Wilds, Bowser's Castle 3
- Fun fact: The super circle was the first entry that had a muffin cup; The previous games were limited to mushrooms, flower, star and special cups.
- What is Mario Kart World taken from this? You could claim that Super Circuit brought very little to the series, but let's be fair, that's the first handicapment, right? At this point, there are just as many portable Mario Kart games but no!

And there is a plaid flag. All three games here can be played on Switch if you have a NSO subscription on a layer of expansion package (and SMK is available with standard SUB), so if this is all nostalgic, take a circle for a circle or two and freely share your memories below.
In the second part we will watch Gamecube's double dash, Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii – be careful about it next week.
And if you are interested to see where these three ended up in the race for best Mario Kart, we have a ranked list that covers just that topic …
