Moon Studios is in difficulties and no rest for the Wicked could be the last game!
Dark clouds are moving over Moon Studios, the celebrated developer behind Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wish.
According to current reports, the studio is under massive financial pressure – just shortly after the release of its latest game No Rest for the Wicked. Internal sources even indicate that this could be the last game of the studio.
The reason for the precarious situation is a massive review bombing that started shortly after the game was published. On platforms such as Steam, a variety of negative reviews were hailed in a very short time – sometimes specifically organized in order to negatively influence the visibility and perception of the game. The consequences are serious: Despite promising approaches and solid players, the commercial success has so far been significantly behind the expectations.
This is particularly bitter for Moon Studios. After the success of the Ori games, the team was one of the most promising independent studios in the action adventure genre. No Rest for the Wicked was an ambitious step in a new, dark direction – both artistically and mechanically. The fact that this project becomes a possible last publication underlines the possible scope of the situation.
It is uncertain whether the studio can still save itself. However, it is clear that if No Rest for the Wicked does not soon go economically, another creative light of the indie scene could go out.
