If you often use WhatsApp, you know the problem: You quickly lose track between groups, channels and private chats – and until you have found the right contact or channel in the chat list, a lot of time often goes by. The search function helps, but typing the name again every time? Annoying. This is exactly where a new function comes in, which WhatsApp is currently testing.
The beta testers of the blog Wabtainfo have discovered the new feature in the current WhatsApp beta (version 2.25.16.8). This saves the last five search queries and displayed directly under the search bar in the “News” tab. Both channels and contacts appear there, where there are new status updates. It is practical that when searching for channels, it is also displayed how many new posts are waiting for you.
It works similarly with contacts. You can see in the search at a glance when the respective contact last posted something in the status. This saves time and simplifies to stay up to date.
What about data protection?
If you now take care of your privacy, it is important to mention that the search history is not shared with WhatsApp servers. All data are stored locally on the device. This keeps your full control over your activities.
Availability
The function is initially available for beta testers with the WhatsApp version 2.25.16.8 for Android. As usual, the rollout is gradually carried out – and the first users already report that they have received a final version. It is still unclear whether the function will soon appear for iOS.
