Update OnePlus 8 – PCWorld

OnePlus, PCWorld, update

OnePlus is not the kind of company that hides what its smartphones will be called for before it is unveiled which allowed us to launch its new OnePlus 8 last week, in line with its announcement.

Perhaps the only surprise is that there are only two OnePlus 8 models to choose from. The rumored OnePlus 8 Lite may arrive the next day, but for now, you can choose between the OnePlus 8 Pro and the one we discuss below.

As expected, the OnePlus 8 misses a few things that Pro has, but it's still a great option for those who want a smart enough Android phone (they carry the same processor).

Wonderful display

OnePlus announced its 120 Hz Fluid Display in January, meaning that all phones this year will meet this specification. Yes, in the case of OnePlus 8 it should be stable at 90 Hz which is wrong, which is the same as the 7T model.

Not so with the OnePlus 8 Pro, which achieves this display more often than not being able to put it together at a high resolution, something that is not allowed by all phones. You can check out all their news on OnePlus 8 Pro Review.

OnePlus users may want the latest and greatest technology, but it must be acknowledged that the difference between 90 and 120 Hz is small, so the experience remains the same and very smooth, resulting in better time data. battery.

Another common missing feature is the Quad HD + solution, and instead it is resolved by Full HD +. But, if again, we're not overly concerned about this, as the screen still looks very sharp and this low resolution favors other features.

No matter whether the Pro will tempt you or not, the OnePlus 8's screen is really good, with high quality comparisons, color accuracy, and HDR10 + content viewing support.

In line with other competitors on the market, its screen is 6.55 centimeters but with a 20: 9 aspect ratio (the Pro is even 6.7 inches). Although it is high in size, it helps with its grip and handling with one hand.

If you like smaller phones, now that Apple has introduced its iPhone SE 2020, OnePlus may have kept the ace up its sleeve with its OnePlus 8 Lite, which we'll have to wait a while.

A few things to complete this section of the screen is that there is still a fingerprint scanner on the screen, which works well on the bottom and shows you the hotspot on the screen. OnePlus also switched to the camera mounted on the left in front of it.

Although we liked the progress of the 7T Pro pop-up camera that didn't cause any inconvenience to the display, OnePlus chose to offer a more memorable and resistant mobile, in addition to the fact that the sensor hole is small.

The cameras are good but not by phone

Based on the fact that the specs of today's smartphone cameras seem to have recovered a bit, with 100 MP or x100 zoom sensors, OnePlus has chosen to keep things simple and functional.

So, at its rear end, the three camera sensors are completely aligned with the main one, the Ultra wide angle and the Macro, leaving one for the phone. OnePlus claims that the user wants more here that is linked to harming another.

This is the specification of these sensors:

  • 48 MP main, f / 1.75, OIS
  • 16MP wide aperture angle, f / 2.2, range 116
  • 2 MP, f / 2.4 macro
  • 16 MP selfie, f / 2.0

Like a cell phone with super high megapixel cameras, the OnePlus does not automatically shoot with its primary MP sensor, though you can reach this range if you want. In fact, the virtual icon allows you to do it faster.

Instead, you get a picture with a 12 MP image that pops up which creates high-quality effects. With the photographer we took, we can see the positive difference, as well as its excellent range.

Colors may sometimes appear slightly, but under certain conditions. Of course, the interface offers a few ways to play, but most people will use the image mode and night view.

Ultra wide-angle camera is unique and of the same quality and is very useful if you want to maximize the viewing angle quickly. We find for example that the saturation of the color with this sensor is slightly lower, improving the effect.

To avoid distortion in photos, the mobile phone has active lens adjustments. The camera app offers x2 zoom, but it's not a separate lens as it simply takes care of the larger sensor.

With a larger, larger camera the more popular option offered by smartphone manufacturers, the results were good, though you have to keep a certain distance in front of the title.

We are surprised that macro functionality is not part of a larger visual menu, something you will find on display and landscape nights. Instead, it's on top of the app, next to flash settings and times.

The 16 MP selfie camera offers great results, whether you use it in standard or direct mode. Although you are on the left of the screen, it does not affect the angle view.

OnePlus notes that when using selfie mode, a white ring flashes around the sensor mounted on the screen, indicating that this grip is used.

In the video segment, the OnePlus 8 can take 4K resolution resolution with 60 fps, but if you choose to activate & # 39; Super Stable & # 39; and & # 39; Time-lapse & # 39; recording limited to 30 fps at 1080p or 4K resolution. Fitness is excellent even at 1080p with a 30fps quality.

We found that there is a 60fps 4K Cinema mode where a 21: 9 resolution rate is available. Keep in mind that a short video of just 30 seconds will produce a 500 MB file.

There are many other ways to play, like Super Slow Motion, which has a limit of 240fps at 1080p. Its quality is excellent, but it should be noted that there are some exciting terminals on the market if the video segment is really important to you.

If you are looking at the purchase of OnePlus 8 Pro, you should know that the Ultra wide angle becomes 48 MP (same as the main sensor), has an 8 MP lens with 3x zoom, and instead of a macro, it has 5 MP color filter camera.

Design and finish

There is no doubt that OnePlus is adding a touch of light color and design to this new 8 series. We love the Interstellar Glow, available May 4, but also the other two finishes of Glacier Green, Black or Ultramarine Blue are unmistakably visible. that's fine

Surprisingly, without a set of cameras, you won't find a noticeable difference between the Pro model and the one analyzed here. The volume keypad is on the left, while on the right we have the power button and the standard switch to mute alerts quickly.

The phone features transparent cover as standard to reveal its finish. However, alongside the test terminal, OnePlus has sent us the covers, each with a ruffled one with good beams that allow better grip and more secure terminal.

It allows for the installation of a larger jackphone, as expected, and no USB-C heads in the box, although in conjunction with the new series, OnePlus has announced OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z They are available in black and blue at a price of € 49.95.

Another possibility is that the OnePlus 8 has compared it to its older brother's lack of IP68 rating making it water-resistant and dusty, as well as the possibility of wireless charging of the battery.

OnePlus 8 Pro saves 30W on wireless charging such as Samsung and Huawei are done on their computers, which works best when you want to re-install a wireless headphone or someone else's phone.

Battery life and charging

One thing that OnePlus has come up with in this model is its increase in battery capacity, which measures up to 4300 mAh (that Pro is 4510 mAh on its larger screen). For easy mobile use you will have no problems within two days of use.

In real life, with more than an hour's worth of calls, the use of social networks, WhatsApp and web browsing, allowed us to sleep at a battery rate of 60% of its charge.

OnePlus 8's fastest charge is the USB-C Warp Charge 30T, which is also 30 W and can make the phone up to 57% shock in 30 minutes and full power in just over an hour.

A new feature in the series 8 is a pre-programmed charging, in which the phone modifies a new pattern by being used to "reduce battery charge and increase battery life."

For example, this will prevent the phone from reaching 100% until 6 AM, when that's when you wake up and start using it and leave the charger overnight. In this way, a healthy use of the battery is made. Sounds like a good idea.

Working

We start from the fact that OnePlus 8 has the same chipset and internal components as the Pro, so it works with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 865 processor, indicating that it adds support for 5G technology.

The model we tested has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, though it is also possible to purchase a model with 8 GB of low RAM storage and 128 GB of low € 100.

We said they have the same components, but that's not entirely true, since the OnePlus 8 has DDR4 type memory, while the Pro type DDR5 is much faster. The storage is UFS 3.0.

In the following graph we can see benches of both types, and facing other sectors in the market. Generally, the differences between OnePlus will not be appreciated in game management.

We've had some issues with the Gebenben 4 4, but as you can see, the OnePlus 8 goes through some benchmarks, beating the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Huawei P40 Pro, and Oppo Find X2 in Geekbench 5.

Android and O oxygen OS

As expected, we have a layer to make O oxygen OS running on Android 10. It features exciting features like dark mode, in addition to the fact that user-facing cameras are one of the best things you'll see on Android models.

Overall, the interface stays true to its origin while respecting the native Android a bit, offering its own style with additional features. These include new system icons, dynamic wallpapers, and Model Mode 2.0.

There is a lot you can navigate in between, with customization options such as button selection and body gesture sensing interface. There are cool things like Zen Mode when you need to take a break from social media or your digital life.

Price and availability

Entry price for OnePlus 8 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of € 709 and its sale is due April 21. You can also find it Amazon Spain.

If you choose the model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (the one analyzed here), the price of OnePlus 8 up to € 809, with finishes in Glacial Green, Black or Ultramarine Blue. At Interstellar Glow we will have to wait until May 4.

It should be borne in mind that the prices of this new OnePlus 8 series are easy to remember, as it should be based on a € 100 discount between different configurations. Therefore OnePlus 8 Pro with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage costs € 909.

The final decision

As you may have seen in the review, we encountered a few OnePlus 8 variants, but just a little, with things like screen size, feature rating, and colors are undeniable.

With the purchase of OnePlus 8, you also get a great smartphone in terms of quality, price and performance, with all the important features that can be expected in the current celebratory models.

The combination of design, design, features and functionality is the highest we expect from OnePlus. Also 90 Hz screen and chip specification when covering the 5G phase.

Although in the camera category there are better options, in addition to the absence of the phone lens, the results will not disappoint you, as they are quite good in general. Only great lens quality leaves something to be desired.

Cable charging can be faster than 30W in the current year, but it still carries some good times for you to run out of time in your day to day.

It's pretty easy to recommend the OnePlus 8 compared to many other competitors, so the question to ask yourself is when to choose a high-end Pro model, with which you get a 120Hz QHD screen, better cameras, IP68 waterproof and wireless charging.

That's a list of very exciting developments that clearly allow the € 200 you pay more, but if what you care about both are on screen, the difference between the two is overlooked, so stick with OnePlus 8.
