If you were looking for an opportunity to go back to the world of Ivalice, then we have some good news – a new version of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is being released today.
And it's time for Big Today to go on sale in Japan, which goes live later today, and when the game is 50% bigger! If you haven't tried it, now is the time, because the new pool brings significant changes to the game – many of which are highly requested by fans.
Here's a brief overview of the extras:
You can now reset the licenses
In Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, you assign each character to your party up to two licenses. Think of these as tasks – describe the role they will play in the battle.
So, for example, an active Balthier can repair damage like a Knight, and give them a huge buff brawny Foebreaker license.
Or the venerable Ashe can collect the devastating magic of the Black Mage with the support of Time Battlemage.
It's a very flexible system that gives you more control – but fans had one problem with it. Once you've assigned a character, you can't do it again.
Not at all. Just go to Rabanastre (the city where the game begins), and visit Montblanc, Clan Centurio's leader. It will allow you to modify your licenses, allow you to refine the characters and try new combinations of your heart's content!
You now have 3 Gambit sets
Another important part of Final Fantasy XII is the Gambits. This allows you to set clear behaviors for your team in battle – when someone's health is reduced to criticism, spell healing, or prioritizing a powerful enemy in battle and so on.
Testing different Gambits is one of the most fun parts of the game, and now it's pretty easy. You can set up three sets of commands, and switch between them automatically.
That allows you to create a multi-level team setup much easier than before. Say, for example, your current tactics are focused on reducing enemy crowds quickly. If you are running against an enemy or a powerful boss, they may not work well.
Now, you can switch to the new Gambit set-up – perhaps one that is more focused on dealing with damage to a specific target, or keeping the team on their feet. It means you can spend less time on menus, and more time focusing on exploration and fighting strategy as a whole.
The original Final Fantasy XII OST is now available
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age features a completely redesigned sound – and it's really amazing in our opinion.
But we know that some people prefer the original – that's why the Zodiac Age lets you go back to the original PS2 music if you like.
With the new patch, there is now a third-party music option available to everyone – the OST of the original game. It tightens close to the PS2 version, but with higher quality samples and different uses in some cases.
You can switch between soundtracks on the menu, so take a listen and see which sound option you like. After all, there are no wrong answers here – they are all good in their own way.
