Otherwise what the internet may or may not have told you, Minecraft does not shut down its servers by 21, 2020.
These rumors seem to appear on the prank site Channel45news.com, published “story” which was picked up by a major search engine and mounted alongside official sites for its news feeds. For those of you who don't know, Channel45news is a website created for pranks that lets you generate the title of your choice. In this case, the article says, "Minecraft will shut down their servers by the end of 2020."
Community Manager Microsoft Helen Zbihlyj on Touched on Thursday in an attempt to quell the rumors. "Minecraft doesn't stop, Mojang is NOT ready to close." Polygon has reached out to Microsoft for more ideas.
The prank appeared to come out on December 30, when "news stories" circulated on Twitter. It is clear that Channel45news is a prank website once you click on the link – the banner on the side of the screen reads "You have a prank!" But the title itself, paired with the "news" URL, might sound like we believe in just an endless look. As a result, the story spread quickly across social media.
Despite what this deception may suggest, Minecraft remains one of the most popular and most important games of the last 10 years, and there seems to be no slowing down as the game enters the next decade. New, great updates are being released regularly, the last of which was a few weeks ago.
