Ready or Not is considered the tactical hope for fans of the old Rainbow Six and SWAT games and is expected to be accordingly hot.
But now the title is causing a lot of excitement: after it became known in 2019 that the alpha version can only be tried for $ 120, the next damper followed with the PvP event at the weekend.
While many players hoped for a complex tactical shooter à la SWAT 4, the gameplay scenes shown in various streams rather look like a wild mix of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Rainbow Six: Siege.
more on the subject
Ready or Not – that's why we need this shooter
More CoD than SWAT?
So far, it has been extremely difficult for fans to get a real impression of Ready or Not: Paying players are not allowed to share their experience with the closed alpha version with the world, because all gameplay material from Ready or Not is subject to a strict NDA.
Therefore, there were many hopes for the PvP event. The developers Void Interactive mainly distributed the access to some streamers – so many fans had to continue to watch. But what they got to see was anything but convincing for most.
Instead of tactical co-op gameplay, we see wild and chaotic Run & Gun, tons of bugs, broken game sounds and strange animations. The video of the YouTuber BigfryTV gives a picture of it:
The King of the Hill mode is played on an extensive map, while just a few seconds after the start of the game, whistling shots flash past the heads of the participants – since fallen players spawn again after a short time, there is also much more rest than tactical action.
Ready or Not? Fans say "not"
The fan reactions to what is shown are correspondingly negative – after all, many fans want a tactically demanding gaming experience, as was originally shown in the trailer.
Numerous comments on Reddit require developers completely remove PvP mode from the game or at least focus on the single player part. In any case, the comments from fans speak a clear language:
»Your PvP design doesn't match the game's vision. It's a complete disaster and there's no denying it. «
– nemesisxhunter
"I'm here for the spiritual successor to Swat 4, not Rainbow Six: victories for the poor."
– Zephyrwing963
»You would be better advised to simply break the multiplayer and instead concentrate on the campaign«
– Phi03
»It is more than obvious that enthusiasts are interested in co-op, story and PvE experiences. (…) Leave the PvP for now and put money, crew, resources, time and everything else you have in the co-op and the story. «
– captainaeternus
This is how the developer reacts
After the PvP event, the community initially had to spend two days on one Developer response waiting. This finally came on Sunday – albeit extremely subdued in the form of two short Discord messages: you just wanted to show the progress you have made. The PvE part needs more work before it can be shown to the public. After all, he was the centerpiece of the game.
BigfryTV also says that the wait could be worthwhile in his YouTube video: The closed PvE-Alpha doesn't play smoothly, but much better – and even feels like it is on a completely different foundation built. The shaky multiplayer impression could possibly be a wrong light on Ready or Not throw.
