Nintendo has announced that it will close the limited edition eShops of the Wii U family and 3DS systems in certain countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on July 31, 2020.
Short summary Nintendo Support Page means that users in the affected area will no longer be able to issue codes, software redownload, or update the software. Things are scary when you're still stuck in any of these machines and you happen to be living in this area.
Here are the full details:
In some Latin American and Caribbean countries, Nintendo's unlimited Shops for the Wii U program and the Nintendo 3DS family of programs offer few basic functions, such as game code redemption. Those limited Nintendo Shops will close on July 31, 2020 and users in the affected regions will no longer have access to pay code downloads, software redownload or software updates, so we encourage users to take any of those actions before the closing date. .
As noted, Nintendo encourages users to do everything they need before the closing date and goes on to explain how software that requires eShop functionality can stop working:
Also, any software that requires Nintendo Shops to be restricted may stop working. (Note that Mexico and Brazil will not be affected.) Thanks to everyone for using the limited Nintendo Shops and for being huge Nintendo fans.
There is a further downside to this notification – to alert users to reopen any previously downloaded software in eShop, check for any software updates (programs and games), and redeem any codes.
Also, this applies only to certain countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (Mexico and Brazil are not listed, because they have full "eShops"):
The following regions will be affected by this: Anguilla, Antigua / Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, British Isles, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St. Vincent / Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, US US Islands, Uruguay, Venezuela.
And for those who are wondering, this is the reason why limited eShops close:
