Yves Guillemot, current CEO of Ubisoft, is one of the most important and authoritative voices of the entire video game industry. Their titles are usually characterized by a vital issue, they are multiplatform in their absolute majority, so that in addition to being an industry connoisseur, he is also an expert on the different platforms that Ubisoft takes its games to.
In a conference with his shareholders, Yves Guillemot commented on the present of the company and, above all, the future forecasts, after Ubisoft rethought part of its launch strategy to give itself more time to prepare its games and provide them with a higher quality. In this sense, it has also given some clues of what the immediate future will bring with the new generation, its backward compatibility.
"These consoles will work with almost the entire catalog of previous consoles. It will be something new in the industry, it will help past generations to continue with the great consoles, and their market, for the next few years."
This is good news for the players, although logically there are many unknowns pending. Firstly, how it will be done in the case of PlayStation, whether it will be direct through current discs or digital downloads or will work through PS Now, since Microsoft already has more experience in this field.
In addition, there is also a lack of qualification about "with almost the entire catalog", since as in the case of the current Xbox compatibility, many developers or Microsoft itself have to adapt their games, so we can count on imposing absences in the next backward compatibility of PS5 and Series X.
