Application Photography, available on all Macs, allows us to import images from external media such as hard drives or cameras. Recently some developers discovered an error in the performance of the resulting application Imported photos take more than usual.
1.5MB extra per image
By default, our iPhone or iPad takes photos using the HEIC format. When we import content from an iPhone or iPad using this tool, we can decide what we want Use real format (HEIC) or convert images to JPG format.
An application error occurs when unchecked Keep the original, an option that causes the app to convert content to JPG. Conversion is successful and the file is fully functional, and so far 1.5MB of white space added.
Obviously when we import 10 images the difference is almost negligible, but if we import 1000 we have 1.5GB of space with no real data. It should be noted that this error only occurs when importing photos from Apple devices, who use the HEIC format to capture them.
The solution? Simple. We can use the tool Photography because import the images in HEIC format and make the conversion thereafter with the Photos app, for example.
The founders of the bug, the NeoFinder operating system group, have already notified Apple of the situation, so we will see a correction for this error arising from future software updates.
