The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U digital store, and the services associated with it, will close the July 31, 2020 in 42 passes of Latin America and the Caribbean, as announced by the Japanese company through its support page. Players may not update software, download purchased games or redeem codes after that date. Brazil and Mexico they will not be affected by the measure.

The Nintendo eShop of those territories offered "basic functions" how to redeem codes. Users of those passes may not "redeem a download code, download new software, or update software." From Nintendo they motivate the players "to carry out these actions before the closing date" of the eShop.

The company does not give a specific reason for closure. "We constantly re-evaluate our business and make decisions based on a variety of factors," read the Questions and Answers article they have posted.
