Until the end of 2020, it will remain the dominant topic in the gaming industry: the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. On the occasion of the turn of the year, analysts are now making a first prediction about the most interesting topic: the price!
At the turn of the year, two analysts have now been drawn to forecasting the pricing of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Such forecasts at the beginning of a new game year are quite common and are published in the industry magazine GamesIndustry.biz released. In the course of this, the forecasts of the respective analysts from the previous year are also recapitulated – and these proved to be largely accurate in the following two cases.
Piers Harding-Rolls from IHS Markit Technology initially commented on the fight between the two next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft. He expects the PlayStation 5 to outperform the Xbox Series X and sell more often – despite the supposedly greater performance of the Microsoft console. Harding-Rolls leaves it open whether the price will play a role, because in this regard he does not differentiate between the two platforms.
Reason: The analyst assumes that Sony and Microsoft will enter the next-gen race with similar pricing. According to him, the probability is higher that the price will be higher than the launch price of the PS4 of his time. In short: According to Harding Rolls, PS5 and Xbox Series X will be more expensive than $ 399. That in turn could also cause Microsoft to drive on two tracks and, in addition to the powerful Xbox Series X, also offer a cheaper, less powerful model. He does not expect this to happen from Sony.
Dr. Dr hits the same notch Serkan Toto from Kantan Games. According to him, specifications, features and prices for PS5 and Xbox Series X will be significantly more similar than in the current generation. In both cases, he expects a starting price of $ 499 for the console, but unlike Harding Rolls, he does not expect Microsoft to run on two tracks and will offer a cost-effective variant.
