Turn any Android into an Xbox with the power of cloud

Android, Cloud, power, Turn, Xbox

Just a few days ago Microsoft announced the arrival of Project XCloud in many countries, including Spain. The service is finally available and we are already able to test it. We tell you about our experience.

XCloud is coming to Spain and we've already tried it

Cloud is one of those goals that was talked about in the last few months in the video game world. Its functionality rests on the servers where our game is made, which we see displayed on our mobile phone. When we press the buttons on our controller, the action is sent to that server and the video game continues to display on the mobile screen.

This technology is of great benefit, and that it can convert into any computer with a screen and remote control connection to the Internet. Your phone, your TV, that old computer from 10 years ago, any device.

Not a single cloud, but there are several companies with their own functions. Nvidia is one of the biggest leads with GeForce Now, even though we have Google and Stadia, PlayStation with PlayStation Now and now Microsoft with XCloud. This service officially arrived in Spain today and we have already tested it.

Needs to enjoy XCloud

  • Have a Microsoft account and an Xbox gamertag. If you can't find them, they can be created in this link.
  • A phone or tablet with a version equal to or greater than Android 6.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 or greater support.
  • Wi-Fi or portable mobile data at 10 Mbps download.
  • Xbox One Wireless controller via Bluetooth.
    • After checking the service, this remote is not important, and any remote that is compatible with your mobile should work.
  • Xbox Game streaming program, available on the Google Play Store.
  • Subscriptions to the original version, from this link.

Once enrolled, we must wait for Microsoft to confirm it in the email. I have been lucky since I submitted my application this morning, but some colleagues have sent it many days ago and have not received confirmation.

Lots of great console games on your mobile

What attracted my attention as soon as I got to the Xbox Game Stream was the scale and quality of the games available. Over 50 topics including some recent Halo, Forza, Battle gear, Sea of Pirates, and other high-tech titles like Just Cangela 4, Ace Combat 7, Civilization VI, Yakuza 0 or Wasteland 2 among many that you can see on the official Pro XCloud page.

At first you see that all of these topics are available free of charge, but this is because they are in the beta phase. Hopefully, once the service is officially started, you'll need to pay for your subscription as an Xbox Game Pass. The pricing issue doesn't have much compliance until Microsoft's official details.

To test this service we used the Galaxy S20 + and started playing game highlights to test the quality of the service: Forza Horizon 4, a good auto game that is one of the Xbox & # 39; s versions.

If you use high screens we will have black stripes on the sides, this is because the Xbox games are designed in 16: 9 format.

Invisibility, the effect is amazing, and that when a game is designed to look good on television, when you pass it on to a pixel-sized screen, you look great. Sometimes it comes down to quality but it saves time.

As for latitude we had no problems. When you compare it directly to the console you see that there is a slight delay, but when your connection is in the right range it's hard to see.

The only part we couldn't believe was the sound, and that is because the sound was constantly copying though the image worked well. It is not uncommon for retraining problems when working in beta.

You don't need an Xbox controller or console to play, even though it's recommended

One of the things that has caught our attention in the Xbox Game Stream is that, even though the program itself asks us to connect the Xbox controller, it is actually not an important requirement, and that is, in the end, any controller compatible with our cell phone will be worth playing. In particular, we checked on several controls for connecting by telephone and wireless to a cell phone.

  • The official Xbox One controller: Although you are an expensive administrator, it is still the best option for the service. A large, comfortable controller with an Xbox button to access the menu (all other controls should use a touch screen).
  • Playstation 4 controller: There's nothing better than playing an Xbox with a Play controller. You can only do it on Android and it's a poem. The Playstation 4 controller is one of the best Android options because you can use its touchpad as a trackpad, with a pointer appearing on the screen.
  • Google Stadia controller: I already knew that buying a Stadia controller would work for me more than playing Stadia. One of the best controls on the market.
  • Nintendo switchch Pro controller: In my case I tried a cheap Aliexpress image running on Switch and Android.
  • Remote Bitdo: 3 years ago I found this remote and it is still one of my favorite artists. And now to play Xbox.

The future is not broadcast, but it looks bad

Although it was not the first to arrive, Stadia is one of the services that has come with great power.

In recent months, video game broadcasts have collected a number of topics that indicate that we are facing the future of video games. By the way, these articles are not misinterpreted, although it is true that they can sometimes be my favorite (see I'm a mea culpa).

Broadcasting, at least as we know it now, is far from restoring computers and lifelong complaints, but nonetheless it has great potential the perfect complement to the gaming experience. Keep playing home with the power of the local console, get out your mobile phone and keep making your games more accessible, continue the journey and from your laptop to play.

After the arrival of Geforce Now (which is a very convincing time), Stadia, PlayStation Now and now Project XCloud have a clear. Mobile is not a natural thing rather than a console or its biggest enemy, but it is a backup to enjoy the best games when we don't have one.
