Various analytics firms regularly publish their sales ratings for technology products. Recently, Canalys released its top 10 best-selling smartphones in the first quarter of 2020. Among them, the iPhone 11 introduced in late 2019 high end models only they manage to include this situation.
The iPhone 11 has access to the top 10 best-selling terminals
Before updating the graph of Canalys, it is worth clarifying some things. The first is that no company discloses its statistics of official sales, very little separated by model. Apple used to offer the whole figure but for two years it has stopped doing so, continuing to follow the industrial tradition.
The second point to keep in mind is that Canalys is about units sell-in, that is, devices sold at a sales channel. The manufacturer sells its units to intermediaries who work as shopkeepers or electronics stores. This statistic does not have to be compatible with sell-out, which are units that were ultimately sold to the customer. If this does not happen, the units accumulate on the shelf and produce losses. Therefore the units collected by this company do not have to comply with the final sale.
In light of this, we will analyze the list of smartphones in this scenario. The first thing that attracts attention is that Apple has managed to come in with three models on the list. And all three agree iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max announced in 2019. State-of-the-art iPhones typically make up nearly 60% of total iPhone sales per year.
If you look at the details, the iPhone 11 is crowned as the best-selling model of 2019 reaching 18 million ports, according to Canalys. In January, we saw that Tim Cook claimed the best-selling model in Q4 for 2019. Instead of sixth and tenth there are the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro, which fixes the increase in the premium category of larger models (6.5 vs 5.8 inches).
The race for the grand finale disappeared into battle

Taking a closer look at the competition in this situation, we find something very interesting. All high-end models in this situation come from Apple. Others, they are low or medium terminals. To compute the average for all, we find the following retail price:
- Apple iPhone: 1,075 euros.
- Samsung Galaxy: 215 euros.
- Xiaomi Redmi: 176 euros.
High sales are regulated by the type of vessel whose terminals are five times more expensive. While it is true that in the case of Samsung, the launch of the Glass S20 was the last March, in the middle of the epidemic. Given the debate at the end of the quarter, and the decline in spending, it makes sense neither are they of any kind the best.
The average price of an iPhone in this case is five times higher than that of other Android competitors
In addition, we should note that the retail price at launch varies greatly between the models. While Apple managed to keep it in its official stores, it was playing with discretionary discounts vendors, Android devices they go for discounts very quickly. This functionality supports Apple's facilities, because they help them maintain their value over time (as well as security and software updates).
In short, it's a quarter that, as long as it goes, brings good news to Apple. As indicated by their financial results.
