By the end of March we have already talked about how various Apple and Microsoft models have completed converting which two devices are currently in place: Microsoft & # 39; s Surface and iPad Pro with their Magic Keyboard. And after Apple's launch, it is now those of Redmond who have updated their range of devices.
Among those redesigns we have Surface Go 2, a convertible that wants to be a suitable companion to the basic user who wants to use Windows in their daily lives. Let's take a look how this new Surface 2 can be compared to an iPad today.
Surface 2 Go vs iPad Air vs iPad Pro: comparison
We'll adjust the screen size of that Surface Go 2, 10.5 inches, to compare it with the most popular iPad:

I would not compare working with full names, because things like the raw frequency or the RAM value of each device are greatly influenced by the operating system and its integration rate. Apple is expanding the iPadOS desktop and tablet at a much lower rate, something we can say happens with Windows and Intel processors. In addition, the Surface Go 2 is still the most recent so their performance tests are pending.
However, the focus of the Surface 2 is clear and very similar to what Apple intends to do with iPads: Be your computer for regular users, those with basic needs and professionals. Usually it is also for small, comfortable and portable devices.
IPad Air and iPad Pro succeed in light and screen quality: The Surface Pro 2 weighs about 100 grams more than the iPad Air. Its full-screen HD is enough for this 10.5-inch size (so I don't think it's a bad thing in itself), but it is quite lacking in retina resolutions for iPad screens. Apple tablets also run at 120Hz frequencies. A12 chip performance, coupled with Apple's efficiency, can deliver better results than Intel Gold or Core m3.
There is also a difference to the cameras, though no exaggeration. A minimum of 5 megapixels for the Surface Go 2 front camera is enough for video conferencing and Windows Windows recognition, though some camera features and performance in the system will not be available. The iPad Pro, with its high performance, wins in the rear camera category though Ipad Air and Surface Go are equal in storage capacity (64 GB).
In the case of Surface Go 2 and iPad Pro we have a real extension that provides keyboard and mouse for tablets, in both cases with the same look. We continue to be sponsored by iPad Air, or should turn to third-party accessories to install the trackpad in this case. The result stays the same, though the comfort of the Magic keyboard and Surface Go keyboard far outweighs solutions like Logitech's iPad Air where the entire tablet should be put on trial.
Where the Surface Go 2 benefits from the price: from 459 euros. If we also add a keyboard and trackpad accessory, that difference is fixed. Specific assumptions make sense, or I think users will choose one device or another depending on how familiar they are in one ecosystem or another. Someone who's been using a Mac for years, for example, won't buy the Surface Go 2. And someone who uses Windows only has a solid change of usage experience compared to the iPad.
