The preview version of Windows 10 version 20H1 seems to have been spared from such serious bugs. Microsoft only states that the Update process in some cases apparently takes longer than normal (via Forbes).
If you still want to be on the safe side and avoid potential problems with the update, you can For the time being, do not install the update – assuming the corresponding earlier version of Windows (see also the next point).
# 4: Microsoft supports earlier versions of Windows 10 – but limited
If you are using the current build of Windows 10, i.e. version 1909, you can initially do without an update from Windows 10 to version 2004, alias 20H1. Microsoft will continue to support this version until May 2021. The following support regulations apply to earlier versions of Windows 10:
- Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 update): Support end of November 2020
- Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 update): Support end of December 2020
If you don't want to install the upcoming May update for Windows 10 yet, you can continue to use your previous version of Windows. However, if the support expires, an update is due.
How can I postpone Windows updates? You can in the system settings of Windows 10 under the point Update & Security -> Windows Update -> Advanced Settings open a dropdown menu. There you have the option to postpone quality updates that are published monthly by up to 35 days. You can postpone feature updates like 20H1 for a maximum of 18 months (until the end of support for your current version of Windows).
You also have the option to use Windows 10 general waiving of the update installation to force. We explain how this works in our article on Windows updates. We do not recommend the method described there as a permanent solution, because it means that relevant security updates are also affected by the update lock.
# 5: Windows 10X comes later
Microsoft has announced in an official blog post that it will start with the new Windows 10X operating system only together with single-screen devices will deliver. A version for the announced dual-screen hardware Surface Neo is still a long way off.
