Trailer Empire of Sin: John Romero's great grandmother takes up arms
In many countries (United States, Belgium …), Mother's Day was celebrated yesterday. The opportunity for Paradox Interactive to broadcast a trailer of the criminal strategy game Empire of Sin dedicated to Elvira Duarte Morales, who is none other than the great grandmother of John Romero (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom …).
Inspired by the noir films on the theme of the crime era of the 1920s, more specifically prohibition in Chicago, Empire of Sin will offer us to choose one of the fourteen characters available (some real like Al Capone, others fictitious), and build a crime empire from scratch. Elvira Duarte Morales, featured in this trailer, is part of the lot. As John Romero explains, his great grandmother was the manager of three brothels in Nogales, a town on the border between the United States and Mexico, in the 1920s. '' "We did some research, and the more we found out about Elvira, the more I thought, "God, this is a badass. She must be in this game," said Brenda Romero, wife of John and Game Director of Empire of Sin, in the columns of Polygon.
In turn-based battles, this fearsome grandma can use her Devil's Breath ability, based on a drug called scopolamine. It allows you to take control of an enemy for three turns to force him to attack his allies. At the end of the three turns, the controlled character dies.
Empire of Sin is scheduled for fall 2020 on PC (Steam), PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
