In the fight against the growing number of cheaters in Call of Duty: Warzone, the developers continue to take tough measures. Nothing works without a cell phone number.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently suffering severely from cheaters, against which a ban is of little use, because the banned players simply create new accounts for the free-to-play version and continue to cheat.
Infinity Ward now wants to put a stop to this. As in CS: GO and other games, for the time being it is only mandatory for the PC version to link the account with a cell phone number to which an SMS is sent to activate. In principle, a system similar to that for two-factor authentication. At the very least, this should prevent banned players from quickly getting back into a new account.
Security Update: We have initiated two-step SMS authentication for new #Warzone PC users, who log in as free to play as another step to provide an additional layer of security for players.

That will certainly not prevent everything, because there are now enough ways to work around this, but it is at least a further step in the right direction. Infinity Ward had recently begun, among other things, to pack cheaters reported for matchmaking.
