This was enough for us. Obviously, we didn't ask for that much either. We always have a reputation for being overly nonconformist, but we just needed something as condensed and impactful as the Unreal Engine 5 video on PS5 To wake up the illusion for a new generation.
It is nothing more than a highly controlled technical demo of a game that does not exist. A portion created with an engine that will not arrive until next year. Assembled to shine in just over five minutes. Something that they sell us as perfectly playable despite how much we like to take that type of statement with tweezers. And despite this, heck, now we can blurt out that "what you want a new generation"
A spark of illusion
Having around the corner a change like the one promised and knowing about it a handful of data, the design of a box and the appearance of a remote control, was everything except the ideal. That the first time we saw "the games of the future"it was from the hand of titles that could perfectly go through current -except for a few exceptions-, even less.
The afraid to show the cards too soon of Microsoft and Sony It was, on the other side of the screen, the fear that there was nothing to show. And yes, we could have hyperbolic messages that talked about how this jump was going to be greater than 2D to 3DBut every time a new generation showed the little leg under the door it was hard not to go down a bit.
A sin that both companies have committed, eye, but now gives Sony a little more respite. With a well-promoted third-party promotion, Epic Games has announced Unreal Engine 5 running on a ps5 development kit And with it, part of the enormous weight that was on his shoulders has been released.
The ball on the Microsoft roof
Let's not fool ourselves, Microsoft and Xbox Series X They faced these last weeks with a much more solid and promising position than that of an almost silent Sony. Like a grave. Apparently more powerful console, part of its design and possibilities shown, announced launch games and the always brilliant letter of Xbox Game Pass. The ace under the sleeve of a console that, at least for our pocket, aims to be much more appetizing.
A formidable work that, marketing things, is now partially overshadowed by a video that is neither from Sony nor shows anything that will be exclusive to its console. A move well measured enough that during the interview with Geoff Keighley it has meandered not to say openly and directly that something like this will also be possible on Xbox Series X.
Geoff himself commented on it during the conversation: “we really wanted to see something like that”, And the hairs on end that rose while the personage of the demo was sent to the emptiness were the faithful reflection of that situation.
Because we like nothing more than get excited about a generational leap. And hitting there first, straight to the heart, was all we needed to wish it to come now instead of continuing to speculate on what might or might not be.
The good begins
It was even more so because of the fear of not living a E3. For missing that surprise on the stage of that Mecca of the video game now almost in ruins. Because getting out there with all eyes looking involved put all the meat on the grill or take sticks everywhere. A situation that the big three have lived on more than one occasion and that they could not afford in a year like this.
Now it is done. We can already think of the new generation with a smile from ear to ear instead of a "let's see how are you" Because seeing a game come true at this level on the new consoles may be a future for years to come, but there is certainly a horizon with which to get excited.
It's time to see what the next step is. The ball is on the roof of a Microsoft that promises his first videos with gameplay for the month of July and that, if the rumors are true, he has the opportunity to give a blow on the table in June talking about price and dates.
They know that, despite being already happy, we are not going to settle for just this. That we will continue hungry. But we needed, like breathing, that spark that lit the wick so that the give and take between both companies start.
Now the good begins. Welcome to the new generation.
